Default SH5 forum news

I hope you've had time to read my announcement: Please read: SH5 forum etiquette

You can beat up on me here, I hope everyone understands I'm why I'm asking for your cooperation. Not trying to be bossy, but the DRM issue is a couple weeks old. We should save some of our outrage for when the game is actually released, too.

best
Neal

Your point is a very fair one, Neal.

Personally, I'm very disappointed at Ubisoft for turning away from a sim based series, and making Silent Hunter 5 an obvious arcade game..... based on all the videos/screenshots currently released.

That, in and of itself, wouldn't have been that big a deal. It would just have been a case of dealing with a buggy arcade game that the modders would have to work even harder on in order to get it somewhere near where the members here would want it. The plus for the modders being how modable the game is .......allegedly.

The salt in the wound though is Ubisoft making the game playable online only. At that point, my disappointment transitioned to anger. To put a buggy online arcade game on the market, and expect simmers to pay $50 for it.....Forget it.

It's targeted at the wonderful casual gamers. Let them pay for it. We'll buy it later down the line when it's $10, patched, and playable offline.

I'm over the 'don't bite the hand that feeds you' theory. Time to let this arrogant, unprofessional publisher know we feel.

Thank you Neal. I understand (and feel a bit of) all of the anger, but it gets tiresome reading the same gripes from the same people in every single thread, no matter what the topic.

I agree, it's just good general internet forum etiquette to stick to the topic of the thread when posting. No one should beat up on you for expecting that.

DRM is clearly a huge and important issue, undoubtedly the biggest at
the moment, so it is natural that so many threads have been created
about it and that those threads are full of posts.

That said, I agree that topics not concerning DRM should not be invaded
by DRM discussion; that's just impolite.

for me personally i believe all would be well if they had come out last may and just said "hey look, we are going to try a more game type and less sim style game called sh5. it will be different then what you have seen in the past but we are trying to use what we learned with sh3 and sh4 to make it one of the best grafics and game engines yet. we hope you will like it"

this would have been something i think everyone would have already gotten over by now and actually been looking forward to a "gamey" version of the SH series but to let it be a sudden shock in the dead of night at the last few weeks before release then throw in the nuke bomb of DRM/OSP is lunacy by the marketting dept on their part.

im very hopefull for the game itself but like most people, only if DRM free

Good post Neal. For those of us that have no problems with DRM and just want to talk about our excitement for the game, it's been very difficult around here lately.

You say anything positive and you're immediately attacked. It's spread into every topic, even the ones trying to be positive. Hell, the very first response to you was already another DRM complaint. Took no time at all.

I really think there should just be one place to complain about that and people really should be disciplined if they bring it up everywhere else. Because if nothing is done about it this site is going to be a mess. There has to be some form of order around here.

We all have to work a little harder to get along. It may mean ignoring a comment or two, and holding back some. A little humor (like you showed in the scary baby post), and in general, we are one crew, on one ship. We can do it.

It is very difficult to see our beloved Subsim.com being pushed into Subarcade.com... and remain silent.

With DRM we are geting the SH-title "under handbrake" that is supposed to be a core of this site - in a years to come... so what should we do? Discuss direction of the flags at destroyers?

OK... let it be.

As a last straw, comes stunning arrogant Ubi aproach explaing to us their "modern service"... after having this in their own arcade-backyard Ubi forums:

So... just imagine the mood within a general market.

Instead of fair saying: Sorry people, these are desperate and disgusting measures, but ... they push on with arrogant "service promotion" and explanations...

Just as Letum, JScones, Reece, danilsa, TDK1044... etc. are feeble minded children - that need explanation of "service advantages"... instead of one human - SORRY FANS...
