Default This ruined a game for me

One of my favorite games, Battlefield 1942/Vietnam/BF2. I get into it every couple of months, for several days. I noticed a year or so ago that there were some supernaturally good players, I could start shooting them and they would turn and blast me dead. I figured there was a cheat or hack, but never really checked until tonight.

No point in playing that game anymore.

its really sad that some people actually have fun or believe themselves to be, and i quote "1337", by cheating.

the video about the "long range pistol kills" is specially sad, being that they used the song "The Game", and i don't think that its just a nice sense of humor or irony.

I have played BF2 for years and have seen a cheater once. The best method to avoid cheaters in BF2 is to stay out of Karkand & Jalabad those two maps are like the dust & dust2 of Counter-Strike, cheater's heavens.

EDIT: Ow and you arent really helping the issue by posting links to BF2hack sites.

This and general attitude/behaviour in pub games is what made me stop playing any public or pickup games. League/Ladder play is usually much more satisfying, but finding a good group to play with can be a major pain.

Of course though there is the opposite, where you get accused of cheating, when you are just really good at the game, had that happen often enough when I was younger. I will say though there is nothing more satisfying then beating the crap out of a cheater (assuming they are not using some sort of lag/invulnerability hack)

I've seen people using wallhacks and aimbots in games and still manage to suck horrible.

and nothing is more fun then kicking a Cheater's butt in the game.
they start to spit out foul language, their cheating becomes very obvious and mostly leave the server in rage or kicked by the server admin if present.

in BF2 on a BF2 forum there was one cheater I just can't forget that guy...who was so proud of reaching a new rank in the game and posted a screenshot when he got promoted...he posted that screenshot in public for all to see.
besides the message that he was promoted it revealed his whole cheaters package (obvious: radar hack and all enemies are highlighted)

he quikly saw what he posted and tried to hide it, but even that was just a mayor FAIL.

his quik attempt to hide his cheats:

the real screenshot:

(I'm supried these screenshots are still up after more then 3 years)

Pathetic.

Can't say I suffered much at the hands of cheaters, but then I never play online. This would be one of the reasons. The average disposition of "gamers", I use that term loosely here, is just saddening.

I'll only play multiplayer with people I know.

^Best solution.

Lag Switchers, Glitchers and Save hacks all contribute to a titles Online MP slowly dieing off.

The power resides with the developers to stamp it out but TBH after a short amount of time, they just don't care anymore.

Sorry to be a voice out of the "chorus(?)" but i play BF2 online practically daily, since 3-4 months now, and NEVER had problems of this sort (never had to suspect someone of cheating). But this is not even the point... actually I don't care if someone cheats !

People that cheat do themselves a bad service in first place, and theyr game will result as a damn poor experience... they will never feel they "gained" anything, they will remain poor retards.

Most of the servers I use have some competent admins around. A person that CLEARLY cheats, WILL be banned. If a person cheats cleverly, well then again that doesn't disturb me so much after all (as said before, bad for himself).

Still I hope that it is possible to ban a cheater FOREVER from the BF2 servers when there is proof of him cheating. Since there is a log-in to do, why shouldn't this be possible... That would be nasty
[EDIT] I'm not sure if doing the log-in, some sort of serial number of your version is read too (but this could prob. be corrected with another fix), but just killing a profile means to kill all his career

About cheaters in BF2 I just found this: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1065038

Someone considers a cheat even the fact of sitting into a building hahaha

I've given up on BF games ages ago because of the bots, hacking and cheaters. Its so lame that I bust my butt to get honest rewards and these guys are getting the easy deal.

Well, while the cheater may have a "poor experience", he sure keeps doing it It ruins the fun to be shot dead by some guy who bunny hops all over the place.

Which server do you play on with competent admins ? Maybe I need to try a different server.

Also, what version are you running? I just upgraded with the patch 1.41 but it reads 1.129.65-797.0 in the top right of the main menu...

Yeah, in that thread, this guys sums it up nicely:
I always wonder about the ones I unload a full clip into and they'll kill me with one shot. Or the ones that always seem to know exactly where you are all the time..

Then there's the godamn bunny hoppers which I consider just as bad as cheaters.

Yes, I've noticed that in BF2, heck, in the BF series, the hit system always seemed to be a bit crooked, in 1942 it took several hits to take a man down, frustrating when you have a rifle and he has an MG, and in BF2 I've found myself in situations where I've emptied half a clip into a MEC soldier only to be 'incapacitated' in the next shot.
However, I've found this outcome to be slightly less obvious in modded games such as FH2 where weapon lethality is higher. If you spot a soldier and you put a rifle round into him at medium range and if it connects, there's a good chance that he will fall down.
It's not foolproof though, any look at the FH2 video with wittering will remember the incident when Neil emptied a mag into a Jerry and then got blasted.

Teamwork on the other hand, can be hard to find, but when it all comes together, such as the incident on FH2 when I spotted a Panther and guided our guys into whack it before it overran our base.

Still, cheaters are a real pain in the arse...

Neal, 1.5 is the newest patch.

@Hunter

Hehe, I remember a similar case, someone new in some clan posted a screenshot to the other clan members, not realising that it showed he was cheating.

My advice for BF2 would be to find servers that are run abit more "professionally" i.e. gaming sites that host servers. For example, I play pretty much only at the Danish TV2 servers where hackers will be quickly reported to admins who then reports them forward and sooner than later the inviduals are enjoying an global ban.

EDIT: Here's the vid I mention to Hunter:
