The Devs may admire the work, but for legal reasons, they would never include it in the game. Ubisoft legal would never allow external work to be included.

That's OK, and as it should be. However, don't develop the game so talented modelers can't incorporate their work and are shut out.
SH3 and SH4 would have been on the shelf or in circular storage after three months if it hadn't been for them.
They should develop the game to allow maximum modeling of everything to get the most out of it, monetarily for them and enjoyment-wise for us.

Otherwise get a PS3 or Xbox and be done with it.

many game development companies have a policy "We do not accept unsolicited game ideas or unsolicited game content."

as such you would never see this work in an official release.

In this specific case, I agree there's only minimal chance to see Tomi's work in SH5, but the devs proved they can appreciate the work of a modder. Proof stands the inclusion of the much regreted Leovampire's work in the Uboat Missions add-on for SH4. He is even mentioned in the credits, IIRC.

They have already expressed admiration for Tomi's work:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...2&postcount=23.

What more can the dev team do? Tomi's work can act as a superb portfolio piece, if he ever decides to get himself hired as a modeler for any game company (if he isn't already). But even that might not be enough . However his texturing and "level assembly" skills are off the chart.

Cant speak for Tomi, but Ive actually looked at the criteria to become a games artist, I have a strongish art related background.
But I soon realised that I would need to learn tons more stuff, and take about year off working just to assemble any kind of portfolio that would be taken seriously.

Should have thought about it 10 years ago, but I was too busy attending punk rock concerts and chasing girls

in 2006 I even went to a University open day for a games development course, but the prospect of 3 years of being broke, with a very slim chance of employment at other end, made me reconsider. it was too much of a risk.

Lastly Games Development jobs are pretty rare in here the UK especially in London where office space and employees dont exactly come cheap.
Back then, Ubi had a base in Weybridge in Surrey, but they packed up and moved to Canada since

Heh I did tech Support for Ubi once - they just dont know it (it was via a third party company)
I even remember 'trying' to help people get SH II to work

I'll never forget the Irish customers - always SHOUTING THEIR SPECS DOWN THE PHONE!

"DXDI - WHHAT?....OH ROIGHT!....WINDOOWS NINTY EEEIHGHT!
PENTIUM TREE! SEVEN HONDRED AND TIRTY TREE MEGAHERTZ....
....GEFORCE TREE!"
HAVIN' A WEE PROBLEM WITH SOLENT HONTERR TOOUH!"

bless em!

We have more in common than I would've guessed (except for living in the UK, for which I envy you greatly). I've been tech support for almost 300 people at an advertising agency for about a year. Dusting off pc's wasn't exactly a fullfilment of my artistic nature so I quit and started learning 3d Graphics. But then... World of Warcraft came and the months (or years?!) started to slip by me Now I'm glad I didn't take the graphics carrer. With what I know now I would've been amazing 5-6 years ago, but now... well, it's still a hobby, but I took to the sea . The soup is amazing, no Bernard in sight, decent internet connection, bigger room, great coffee, Amsterdam on each voyage, happy (and rested) girlfriend when I get home, the list goes on. And since the price of transporting crude oil went up (and will continue to do so) my paycheck almost doubled. Now if only I could finish this bloody officer course so I can go back there... I miss those late night shifts when I'm alone on the bridge .

Trust me, if they thought it would increase their bottom line the lawyers will find a way to include it. It's pretty easy to achieve.....Tomi signs over IPR to UBI who then give Tomi a big fat cheque.....of course there are other ways

This all came up with Dave's excellent 'Living Breathing Ocean' mod. Dave really wanted them to use his files, and the Devs wanted to use them, but Ubisoft Legal said no.

In the end, they created files that were 'very similar' to Dave's, but legally not his files, and included those files in the game. They then added Dave to the credits as a thank you gesture for his talent and hard work in improving the game.

Its a shame,
What i dont get, is that most 'mods' are Ubis own file (reworked or modified) legally it all still belong to UBI anyway!

Where new content is created and submitted for official use, i dont see why this need be such a huge issue either, can they not send the creator some kind of disclaimer to sign?
maybe the problem is that the creator has no way to legally 'prove' that it is his or her work to distribute.

But what do i know about legal matters? squat diddly. i guess they (the leagal boffins) know what they are doing.

Their policy is that any Ubisoft product must only contain 'in house' files at release. External file modding is fine after release, but the core game must only contain Ubisoft in house files.
