Default Disabling the 'in-game' mood music?

Is there any way to disable the 'in-game' mood music, 'other than' turning the music down or off in the Sound/Options?

When you turn the Music down or off in the Sound/Options, it also turns down or off your Gramaphone and Radio. I want these, but don't like that mood music the game plays by default. So, I have to turn the Music off in the Sound/Options. Then every time I want to listen to the Radio or Gramaphone I have to go and turn the Music on again, and then off again in the Sound Options.

I tried hacking some of the files, but then the game started crashing, so I guess I did something wrong....

Ducimus's Flavored to Taste Mod does this as part of the overall mod. I just backed up the original sound file, then went in and deleted all sounds, except for the main menu sound and various intro sounds, worked like a charm. I still wanted the menu stuff for the various game modes, just not the in-game sound

Open music.cfg located in data>sounds>music folder and add a ; before every file you want disabled. Also you will need an "empty" file to replace originals in that cfg file (you can find one in GWX .
So - it should look like this:

[VICTORY]
Tracks=1
Track1=empty.ogg
;Track1=Happy_Times_1.ogg
;Track2=Happy_Times_2.ogg
;Track3=Happy_Times_3.ogg

You can also select which track the game should play and which not by adding ; before unwanted track(s):

[TENSION]
Tracks=3
;Track1=Empty.ogg
;Track1=Tension_1_Mix.ogg
Track1=Tension_2_Mix.ogg
Track2=Tension_3_Mix.ogg
;Track4=Tension_4_Mix.ogg
Track3=Tension_5_Master.ogg

Also its important to specify number of tracks in each section: if you had 6 tracks but disabled 3 then you must change "Tracks=6" to "Tracks=3".

I could send you my "empty.ogg" (from GWX) but maybe its copyrighted or something...?

Does this mod get rid of the in-game mood music?

It removes Battle, Tension, and High Tension music, which makes it mostly dissappear. What remains is practicallyun-noticable. Also as a bonus, many other sound issues are cleaned up.

Or you can edit data\sound\music\music.cfg with notepad as others have suggested. Comment out the songs you don't want like below

[TENSION]
Tracks=5
;Track1=Tension_1.ogg
;Track2=Tension_2.ogg
;Track3=Tension_3.ogg
;Track4=Tension_4.ogg
;Track5=Tension_5.ogg
; this whole line is now a comment because of the starting character

I already just copied all the ogg files to a backup folder and that worked.

But I'll give this mod a try. Thanks!

Hello,
I have read in here that some don't like the in game music, but can't listen to the radio or gramophone with music shut off. I know I can't stand it. So here is what you do.
If this has been explained already, sorry I missed that post...
Go to you main SH4 install folder location as such.
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Sound
You will notice a folder named: Music
Open this folder, create a folder named "org"
cut and paste all but the "music.cfg" into the "org" folder. BE SURE YOU LEAVE THE "music.cfg" IN THE MUSIC FOLDER!!!
So in this location: C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Sound\Music
There should be a "org" folder (where your original in game music is backed up) and a "music.cfg" file only.
Now, back up to this location: C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Sound\Gramophone
Here is where you can add all your cool tunes to listen to on patrol or victory.
Make sure you save them as 16bit-Mono-wav format.
Go into the game, option screen, sound, turn on the music and crank it. Listen to your gramophone, radio, no more main music.
To get rid of the intro movie's. Go to: C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Movies\Intro
Rename the 2 files in this folder to: "Intro_org.wmv" and "Logo_org.wmv"
Close, play the game. No more laggy intro video.
Hope this hepls you all enjoy the sim.

If the music is in ogg format, can I just replace them with my own music files renamed to the games original names?

My files would be in ogg format also, naturally......

There is another way to disable all music (not just the mood music) but allow the radio and gramaphone to work.

In the SH4 directory within 'My Documents' a lot of data is saved. I can't remember the exact file name, but there is a cfg or ini file that contains the graphics, sound and I think realism settings. In the sound part of the file there is a line that says 'Music=Yes'

I changed this to Music=No and it worked.

I much prefer this as if I want music I turn the radio or gramaphone on.

This simply reflects what you check in your Options menu, Music checked/unchecked.

Ah - that would be a simpler way of doing it. When I tried to adjust it in game I simply dragged the music sound volume to zero. This killed the radio and gramaphone as well - never tried clicking the check box as I assumed it would do the same.

Are you sure about that? I had the Music checkbox uncheck for a few days now and that variable said 'Yes' I'm pretty sure.

I remember because I was suprised it said Yes when I was pretty darn sure I had the Music checkbox uncheck.

The easiest way I have done this is backed up the original in-game file, then deleted all the music except for the menu stuff for the various game modes. Did not affect the radio or grammaphone. To change back I just need to copy and paste the backed up file.
