This is really a shock. Eddie Van Halen was so innovative in his Guitar techniques and inspired generations of aspiring guitarists.
Unfortunately, Eddie's narcissistic approach to music lost them a large number of fans. The brothers Van Halen ( Alex and Eddie ) treatment of Sammy Hagar and long time bassist and vocalist Michael Anthony was terrible and demonstrated loyalty was a lost concept for them. Even So, Van Halen with Sammy Hagar brought a lot of great music to the airwaves and live venues. Rest in Peace. |

Oh no. Eisenwurst just posted van Halen's "Hot for teacher" in the music thread.
Van Halen was an exceptional musician, i also remember his record "1984" was played on every party in the 1980ies and later, one could see that apart from his talent and guitar skills he really had fun playing and experimenting. May he rest in peace.

Sad news. Edward Van Halen was in my opinion the most consequential electric guitarist ever. Yea I know .. Hendrix, Clapton, Page etc. I don't think they could touch him. He had the chops, the style and the composing skills that set him apart. And his band Van Halen put the fun back in Rock and Roll.
RIP Eddie.

"1984" with the smoking angel was the first album i bought, from VH.
This was my favourite song, though i certainly was blown away by "Jump". Also got David Lee Roth's "Cliffhanger" back then.
