Eddie Van Halen dead at 65
Even unhip squares like me liked his music. :(
Cancer sucks. |
Say it ain't so.
He was the guitar god of my generation |
This is really a shock. Eddie Van Halen was so innovative in his Guitar techniques and inspired generations of aspiring guitarists.
Unfortunately, Eddie's narcissistic approach to music lost them a large number of fans. The brothers Van Halen ( Alex and Eddie ) treatment of Sammy Hagar and long time bassist and vocalist Michael Anthony was terrible and demonstrated loyalty was a lost concept for them. Even So, Van Halen with Sammy Hagar brought a lot of great music to the airwaves and live venues. Rest in Peace. |
Guitar great Eddie Van Halen dead from throat cancer at age 65 :o
Van Halen started to be great while he was still young :yep: Quote:

Oh no. Eisenwurst just posted van Halen's "Hot for teacher" in the music thread.
Van Halen was an exceptional musician, i also remember his record "1984" was played on every party in the 1980ies and later, one could see that apart from his talent and guitar skills he really had fun playing and experimenting. May he rest in peace. |
I wasn't ready for this.
R.I.P., Eddie. |
Will be sadly missed by a great many people around the world.

He was and is one of my main musical influences alongside with Jimmy Page, Steve Hackett, Robert Fripp and Allan Holdsworth. I've learned to play the guitar listening to his songs and solos. His music had same effect on me as the Beatles - you turning it on an instantly you've got a Holiday :-)
RIP, Eddie, and thanks for everything! |
End of an era!
One of my fav groups, pure Rock and Roll. fav song: Panama. fav era: with David Lee Roth, of course! RIP Eddie, thanks for all the memories. :salute: https://youtu.be/VpUXFjSiE7g |

Sad news. Edward Van Halen was in my opinion the most consequential electric guitarist ever. Yea I know .. Hendrix, Clapton, Page etc. I don't think they could touch him. He had the chops, the style and the composing skills that set him apart. And his band Van Halen put the fun back in Rock and Roll.
RIP Eddie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EwJ9PkcZk4 |
"1984" with the smoking angel was the first album i bought, from VH.
This was my favourite song, though i certainly was blown away by "Jump". Also got David Lee Roth's "Cliffhanger" back then. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CIE041T954 |
