I'm making a scenario in which i don't want "enemy" units to use anything but depth charges against the player, even if they have other weapons available. i.e. - "semi-neutral" surface craft trying to drive the player out of Soviet territorial waters, without actually killing the player.
Is there a way to do this? I'm still trying to figure out doctrine and script languages. Thanks! ![]()

You should do it by script:

I am most definitely a newbie map maker, but you may want to have the enemy ships keep peacetime ROE but of course be on an adversarial Side to the player. Keeping the peacetime ROE I believe would make it so the ships will only engage with depth charges via the scripting. If they have wartime ROE, they may take the initiative and start engaging with anything.
Also, can these boats sink the player (re: do you want these boats to be able to) or is this just for "effect"?

Thanks guys.
Learning the mission editor sure is an exercise in experimentation. ![]() Using depth charges could inherently sink a sub, sure. But I don't want it to be a "deliberate" act of sinking. I think it's gonna take me awhile to get this mission playable. I may be biting off more than I can chew for a first foray into mission creation. Perhaps I should step back and make one or two simpler missions.

I think, if I understand you right, you could just set up a trigger where if the frigate detects the submarine, you could play a depth-charge sound and then you won't be damaged (but you're still 'caught')
I sometimes include a message with this in the trigger like "XO: Conn, XO. We've been counter-detected." Also, if you Google the International Code of Signals (1969) revised 2003 book, page 152 has the message procedure for the detection of US warships (submarines?) in Russian waters. That's fun to 'use' in radio messages upon counter-detection too! It's also fun to 'escalate' the scenario if you're counter-detected - say, use a trigger to 50/50 whether the ROE is war/peace, set roe to war 30 minutes after detection, launch ASW aircraft to area after detection, etc. ![]() |

Wait, ships in DW have depth charges? I though they'd been phased out completely by the 1980s.

![]() There are depth charges, but I'm not entirely sure what all ships/countries use them. A quick look shows me that at least the Grisha DDs have them.
