Default Twin 40mm Crashes SH4

I used the search function with as many different phrases as I could think of, and I managed to find a post with someone mentioning this problem, but not much else.

The long and short of it is this: I put the Twin 40mm AA on my boat, and when it fires it crashes SH4.

Every 4th or 5th time I try it, it might work.

I have manually controlled the AA, and it would fire without crashing, jump to the tower, control room, the other AA, then back to the Twin 40, and tried to fire it and it crashed SH4...

I'll keep looking with the search function, but if anyone has a link to a fix, that would be great....

I'm noodling in all kinds of stuff "Silent Hunter 4" this morning, so if I run across something, I'll "give you a shout". In the meantime, you mentions it crashes when you shoot it - does it crash if the crew shoots it, or will they shoot it? You wanna do an experiment and try a different boat, and see what it does? What mods are you currently running with?

Appreciate you "keeping an eye out"...

The crew will shoot, and it will crash the game that way also.

I've tried it on a few different boats.

I'll go back through, and "make a mod" that puts it on several different boats and try it in single missions and see how it does there, and get back to you.

I couldn't get it to work "stock". It was listed in the upgrade files as a "deck gun".
So I switched it over to a "heavy AA", and then it was "available". I've gone through and "adjusted" several things with S3D...

And the result is the same. It crashes SH4 no matter what I try to do with it. I'm not sure if it's the model, or something else...

In that case, which version of Silent Hunter are you running, and what is the mod made for?

What other mods are you running, if any?

The twin 40's were available in early - v.1.3 versions of SH4 and were a lot of fun, however many things changed with v.1.4 & v.1.5 including the loss of the twin 40's, and CCIP's easy way to get realistic submerged ranges. (Both issues have been solved by ingenious people)

From: http://www.fleetsubmarine.com/guns.html
Quote:
The single-barrel “wet” version used on submarines had seats for the aimer and trainer, who could elevate, depress, traverse, and aim the gun with hand controls.
.....
Besides its rarely-used anti-aircraft role, the 40-mm was used for attacks on supply junks and other light craft that weren’t considered adequate targets for torpedoes or the main gun. (In actual practice, this was virtually the only thing it was used for, as shooting at enemy planes was highly discouraged except in harbor, where there was no possibility of submerging.)

Later in the war, a 40-mm was usually installed on the cigarette deck at the aft end of the conning tower, where it replaced the original 20-mm mount (which, in the case of most early boats, was itself something of an afterthought). Some boats also added a second 40-mm in the forward gun position at the front of the conning tower. Ready use ammunition was kept in pressure-proof lockers near the gun positions, where it was easy to get at.
Here's a Topic that should help you get them: Post #5 by Snarf:

Open UpgradePacks.UPC and change UpgradePackSlotType= USDeckGun to UpgradePackSlotType= USHeavyAA then it will magically be available and functional. I can only put it in one slot at a time so if someone can help me figure that one out that would be awesome.

[UpgradePack 11]
ID= Upack40mmTwin
NameDisplayable= Twin 40mm AA Gun
