Jimmy Carter, Who is the 39th U.S president has revealed he is fighting cancer. The 90 year old former president underwent surgery last week to remove a small mass from his liver. Unfortunately, President Carter's family has a history of pancreatic cancer. His father, 2 sisters and his brother Billy Carter also succumbed to cancer. President Jimmy Carter was the force behind the peace talks between Anwar Sadat of Egypt and Menachem Begin of Israel. This peace and understanding endures today because of the vision of all 3 men. Sadly , Anwar Sadat was assassinated in his own Country of Egypt for being a man of peace.
Jimmy Carter was awarded the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize for his decades of untiring efforts to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights and to promote economic and social development. He was internationally recognized and was more active in humanitarian efforts after his presidency ended , never having let grass grow beneath his feet. In recognition of his achievements, The U.S honored him with the third and last Seawolf-class submarine being named after him . USS Jimmy Carter (SSN-23 was launched on May 13, 2004, Best wishes to President Carter and His wife Rosalynn and his daughter Amy as he fights the biggest battle of his life Last edited by Commander Wallace; 08-13-15 at 07:48 AM. |

Of all the Presidents of the 20th century, Jimmy Carter is and will remain, the one President who most used the influence of his former office in the aid of humanitarian pursuits. His Nobel was well deserved in 2002 and he has done even more since then to further burnish his legacy. I very much admire that he doesn't just talk the talk, he also walks the walk. I wish him the best going forward and hope he makes a good recovery...

I'll always have a soft spot for Jimmy. Even if he often seemed to be in over his head.

I don't even think he was that bad of a president. He was up against a lot of tough problems in a horrible economy. I am sure he did the best he could.
But I do feel he is the best ex-president we have had in my lifetime.
