Need help with some mods.XD

So I finally decided that it is time to end my vanilla carrers of Silent Hunter 4. So I decided to look for some mods and I'm by no means a expert sub commander. Hell I probably used auto targerting for mor then half of my tonnage...

but I decided out of all the stuff I saw TMO was the one most people seemed to like so I decided to install and give it a try but is there anything anyone can recommend for a less experienced captain till he gets his skill up a bit more?

P.S. Mainly interested in the American sub campaign area but willing to take anything at all.

So far TMO has been making me cry balls of tears as my sub sinks to 600 ft. I have to say this mod makes the game quite the challenge. I think I could come to like it if I can find a way to avoid these dang destroyers and all.

Glad you showed up, we need some help cleaning up in The Bilge. Since I'm the unofficial, self appointed job assigner at Sub-Sim, I'll have you help with the cleaning, scraping and painting.

TMO makes the game crazy difficult. I've been around long enough I can handle it, but I prefer to add RSRDC on top of it. You will get a more accurate traffic, and it takes some of the bite out of TMO.

Be sure to read the PDF file that Ducimus wrote on TMO 2.5, it starts on page 40. Good information about on avoiding detection. The weather, the profile of your sub towards the nearest DD, your depth & speed of your submarine. All of these factors can effect on avoiding detection. Yes, TMO escorts are hard but, not unbeatable. And if you are still having difficultly with TMO, go to the download section to get 'Easier AI for TMO 2.5" and as always, Good Hunting.

I'm also giving that RSRDC a try now.

@Larrywb57 Yeah giving it a read now especially after one of my torpedoes circled around and came back at me somehow when I was in shallow water.

You can turn manual targeting off in TMO. That will help until you get the hang of it. The rest is evasion tactics so besides the manual I'd read all of this:

RSRD will give you a great deal of historic ship traffic and battles but it doesn't change your boat that much. Run TMO and RSRD together or RFB and RSRD together to have a mix of a more realistic boat and historic traffic.

I would also add Improved Ship Physics 2.1 by Topx to your list. Making the boat and shipping physics much more realistic.

There are plenty of other good mods out there and if you want to play the german side please do get Operation Monsun and Omegu mods.

Make sure you put the mods in the correct order with appropriate patches if they are required. Failure to do so will give you a cruddy game to play and corrupt saves.

Try the lighter version of TMO as it is ideal for someone who is looking for a challenge but finds the full TMO version just a step to far.

After playing with TMO a bit I did find out how you guys said I can turn it manual targeting and all off and I still sink a few with it but I'm actually enjoying it I end up sometimes leaving it running overnight just with my volume turned up to warn me of anything and had to get up and dive down to evade a Japanese destroyer and did it successfully made my night but in all I have to say TMO has made this feel a hell of a lot better.

It's a good game stock. The mods, especially the super mods, really make it an excellent game, enough to be able to stay interested for years.

Resurecting my old thread in hopes of a little assistance. Since my last time I unfortantely had to format my comp due to some failed hardware installations on my part and ended up screwing up my hard drives. I come back to install TMO and RSRDC and TMO ends up giving me a strange error of "File not found: data/menu/data/black80.tga" figured it was just a mod clash maybe one updated and is conflicting so let me just try TMO alone no optional or other mods. Come to find out thats where the errors(theres a long list after that all pretty much the same. Figured maybe faulty dl or corrupted one but redownloaded it proved the same result. Is this just a me thing, or is this happening(ed) to anyone else before? I miss the fear I had having a destroyer float above me.
