I had to think back a bit, but after watching some clips on YouTube, I do remember seeing him on American TV on some program, maybe Midnight Special or Don Kirshner's show, back in the early 70s. I seem to recall he was on the same show where I first saw The Sensational Alex Harvey Band ("Delilah"); I believe the episode was sort of an introduction to 'Glam Rock'...

Am I incorrect in guessing Billy Idol owes a bit to Alvin Stardust for his stage presence?...

and, really Jim, identifying your teen years by 'Glam Rock'? Somehow I just can't see you in platform shoes and a Bowie cut...

RIP, Mr. Stardust and thanks for the music...

Yep guilty....loved to wear the platform boots and was known by fellow apprentices in the shipyard during the early 70's as 'Ziggy' because of my infatuation toward my all-time musical hero David Bowie
