Default Taliban death puts Pakistan on alert

This guy was on UK tv recently (within the past month) having granted a BBC journalist an interview and film footage.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-24463839

Quote:
Pakistan's security forces have been put on high alert following the US drone strike on Friday which is believed to have killed Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud.
A spokesman told the BBC all security measures were now being taken.
Pakistan media say Mehsud's funeral has taken place at an unknown location in the tribal area of North Waziristan.
A Pakistan government minister said the drone strike had destroyed attempts to hold peace talks with the militants.
Mehsud was killed along with four other people - including two of his bodyguards - when four missiles struck their vehicle in the north-western region of North Waziristan, a senior Taliban official told the BBC.

I'm not a big fan of drone strikes, but they seem to be getting the job done.

Frankly, I don't think there's any negotiating with these people.

Sad, but true.

I wonder what happens after a top leader is killed.

Do they stick to a predetermined hierarchy or is there a power struggle.

Apparently if rumours are true they simply spin the bottle.

Four missles? You think they maybe really, really , really wanted to kill him?...

I think the drone strikes are a very effective method of dealing with the terrorist hierarchy and places none of our forces at risk as would a "manned" strike or assault. it has been pleasing to see how, in recent, years, the decimation of the leadership has now placed those who would terrorize us in the position of having constantly looking over their shoulders. I wish the use of drones had been enacted with the current fervor much earlier in the war(s)...

Maybe, but could you explain the benefits of launching a strike two days before the negotiators were scheduled to arrive?
