Xbox One: OH GOD WHY?!

This is what I found when I checked my subscriptions on YouTube today:

And, after some research, I have to agree with Angry Joe. Why didn't they reveal any actual GAMES at the press conference? The Halo TV series by Steven Spielberg is an awesome thing to think about, but why not give it it's OWN reveal, and have an actual game reveal at the press conference for your GAMING platform?! And we have to install games before playing them? I'm not sure what to think about that, seeing as it might keep discs in better condition, but it took a while for the multiplayer portion of Halo 4 to install on my Xbox, so imagine how long it would take a full game which would take up more storage to install! Also, one of the things I liked about consoles was that you could just put in a disc and play immediately!

And I hope that the new kinect works better than the last one...

And I have less than fond memories of using the voice commands in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.

Let's hope that the actual GAMES are good

I saw this when I woke up on my Facebook News Feed.

Didn't think it was worthy enough to post. They'll just screw us over with another 500$ console and games that cost 80$ and then we need to buy online passes for all of those games which are released with hundreds of mini-DLC items that we need to pay $4.99 each to be able to play the game.

Had to type this twice because my phone decided to delete it mid paragraph.

The ps3 already had mandatory installs, and while they could take up to 12 minutes, it was never really a problem, put it in let the game install, and go get a snack. You could increase the speed by getting a faster HDD, although that's not possible on the 360.

As for the games, they chose a multiplat as their key game. Bit stupid.

Some negative notes about the new Xbox:

Reportedly requires you to be online once every 24 hours.

You have to pay Microsoft to play used games.

You have to have a kinect at all times.

Live TV won't be available outside the US at launch.

Note the PS4 is technically stronger as it has GDDR5 memory instead of the GDDR3 Xbox has. But the new Xbox will apparently be able to push game calculations to the cloud.

I have suspected that the games industry is heading towards another market crash for a bit now. With the behaviors of most of the major players (particularly with AAA titles, DLC abuse, and trying to add in more micro transactions to payware games, etc) I think a crash is well deserved.

One thing is for sure, the community seems to be getting angrier and angrier over this stuff.

Yep, PC FTW.

Name me one thing a console can do that my (or others) PC can't do. Exclusive games aside.

Other than the whole PSN thing, Sony really hasn't done anything to anger me. I also tend to be happy with my purchases, the only thing that disappointed me was Assasins Creed 3. But then again, I do feel there are hardly any new games worth purchasing and have stayed away from most "major AAA" games. Personally most of the games I am looking forward to are either Sony or Nintendo exclusives, are PC indies, or are rare exceptions like GTA 5.

From IGN
Quote:
It's genuinely not clear to me at this point whom the Xbox One is aimed at. Is it an entertainment box that plays games, or a games console that caters for entertainment? Sony was very up-front about that when it presented the PlayStation 4 to the world back in February: it was pitched very much as a machine designed around both gamers and developers, a games console with other features. For the first 30 minutes of the Xbox One reveal it was essentially pitched as a live TV and sports viewer with a really impressive interface and super-quick, integrated Internet connectivity.

Someone made an abridged version of the conference. I would post the direct YouTube link, but my phone is being stupid.

I think it does tv... But I'm not sure.

So, this Xbox is about three things:
1.) TV
2.) Sports
3.) Call of duty.

That's very very true...although you can't forget Gears of War, Halo, and GTA.

Me, I'm thinking Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell, and hopefully a console version of ArmA that's done right. Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising was halfway decent.

Haha...

Until it releases and I see how it handles, I won't be getting one. If they have the always online/cloud gaming/cloud backwards compatibility/etc I won't even bother.

I'll just get a new PC at that point. My 360 is on it's last leg. I'll just get another one for 100$ and switch out the HD and I'll be good to go. My current one has lasted since 2007 and I still have a working original xbox from 2004.

More great news: current gen head sets won't work with the Xbox One.

That's not an issue for me. I don't play online....and if I did, I wouldn't want to talk to 12 year old kids who want to rape my grandma and kill me with a woodchipper.
