Florida sinkhole: Search for Jeffrey Bush called off

Quote:
Heavy machinery will be brought in to demolish the house.
Quote:
Rescue teams in Florida have called off their efforts to recover the body of a man swallowed by a huge sinkhole under his home.

Jeffrey Bush, 36, who is presumed dead, disappeared into the sinkhole that engulfed his bedroom while he slept on Thursday night.

The house, in the suburbs of Tampa, will be destroyed, officials said.

Sinkholes are common in certain parts of Florida, although most are quite small.

"At this point it's really not possible to recover the body," Hillsborough County Administrator Mike Merrill said.

What a fate to be pulled down over his own house,

That was terrible, but I agree it wasn't worth risky another life to save a dead person. I think they say they hole is 50ft deep now.

What a horrible way to die. Wake up to find the earth itself is eating you up.

I've been following this too. They say the reason for this may have been something that started developing in earth literally millions of years ago. Talk about incredibly bad luck.

Heard today that it's getting bigger and they're afraid the homes next to it will be swallowed up too. RIP Jeff Bush.
