Default Have you finally kicked the MMO addiction?

In the past, I've played a lot of MMO's. (yesterdays term MMORPG). It started with Meridian59, then Ultima Online, then to Everquest, then Asheron's Call, and then just about everything n between from then to World of Warcraft and LOTRO.

And I have to say, I'm done with them all. In my opinion, they are all like this:

A few of them hooked my attention for a very long period of time. I think the games I spent the most time in were:

- Everquest (more like evercamp)
- Star Wars Galaxies with Jump to light speed expansion
- Dark Age of Camelot
- Planetside

Of all of the games I played, i think I had the most fun with SWG with the JTL expansion pre NGE/CU. That was a pretty sweet sandbox. Second runner up was Planetside before they went and blew up araxis and made the map all fubar.

Nowadays, i'm perfectly content with just about anything from orcs must die, to skyrim, to killing floor, bioshock... hell, even rage. Or Stalker. Where as before i would float from one MMORPG to the next, like a revolving door, often going back to games i had previously played; these days i find myself playing whatever seems fun to me at the time.

So have you kicked the addiction? I'm pretty sure I have. Haven't touched an MMO in a couple of years now.

Nope, I didn't kick it....because I never had it. Never played one and don't intend to do so.
BTW how are RPG done online? I can hardly believe they have anything in the way of a good storyline like single player RPGs.

Haven't played WWIIOL in a while but I'm planning to *maybe* in the near future.

Tho, only a 3 month run.

I've always known better than to get into MMOs in the first place. I have a somewhat compulsive personality, but I also know that if I start, it means days of wasted time that I could be doing something else while being always unsatisfied and wanting more.

I would be happier with MMORPGs if they were better on the RPG part - that is, genuinely immersing you in an experience rather than trapping you in a rat-race for better stats, numbers and ranks. This is why I generally prefer offline sims as my poison - they may seem aimless compared to most of the structured MMOs, but if the game goes well, I walk away with the feeling of having "been there", so to speak. I get very little satisfaction from competition, but I'll be stubborn if I get into it. So, better to just spend my time having cool experiences in games instead.

Only mmo I ever actually played is world of tanks, and I only played that if I wanted something simple when I had nothing else to do.

I personally can barely stand most people in real life, much less they're stupidity in MMOs.

I voted "clean"

I was quite addicted to Diablo II, years ago, for a long time. Then I quit (mostly thanks to SHII, III and IV).

Then I fell for WoT, was there for some more than a year, but last may I said goodbye, I hope that forever.

MMOs were bad enough, but "free to play" model makes it expensive! Something they were not before. In world of tanks, paying premium (subscription) is just the first step to be competitive, then you have to keep paying other 15-20$ a month if you want to be among the top... thats a lot of money at the end of the year! So

Yeah, I found that out with LOTRO. Free to play, isn't. In the long run it actually costs you more then a flat 12-15 dollar a month subscription.

Yeah, I read about it. They will change the trial to free2play model, you still
need to subscribe to get all the goodies.

Ah, okay. Hmm, wonder if I should start playing it... Even though my strict policy is not to touch games with monthly fees.

I actually have 4 on my HD at the moment. WoW,SW:TOR,LOTRO and STOL. I go through phases though. Sometimes I bear down and play MMOs for weeks straight and other times I just screw around with other games. Right now I'm kinda messing around with Rise of Flight. I wish they would add some earlier era planes though.

I really liked DAoC. I think the classes in that game were the most varied and interesting. But DAoC was a grind game and a particularly bad grind. I played D&D online and liked that especially since it is free.

WoW is the game that kept my interest for the longest. I closed my account to finish up my degree. I may get back into it. From a game-playing aspect WoW is still a good un.

Briefly I played City of Heros and I understand it has gotten a lot better but I don't think I will go back to it. But a very interesting concept.

The issue that I have with online games is that I prefer to play solo, which kinds defeats the purpose.

It is too bad there is not a single player version of WoW for us anti-social players.

But until I gradumacate, I can't afford the time requirements for online games.

I dropped my "addiction" to them a few years back. I mostly played EQII in a fairly large raiding guild but stopped playing about 5 years ago. I have tried a few since but nothing has made me want to stay with it very long.

In fact,Yes you can! I hear they taste like money with a hint of wasted time. Plus they all come with a side of player stupidity.
