Default Why did the Germans sink my U-boat?

Hello all - I'm a newbie here starting my first campaign after finishing the exams. I leave on Sept 1st for my first patrol in a Type IIa. I'm told to go to AN23 and patrol 24 hours but on the way I meet two Polish ships and sink them, using up my torpedoes. I send a message to base and they say to return to base. So I go back to port and on my way a German torpedo boat starts firing at me. I dive and hide until he leaves and figure it was bad weather and he didn't recognize me. I go on and as I come nearer port German coastal guns sank me. Why did this happen? I know they were polish ships - I checked the flags for sure with the free camera.

If you sink a neutral ship, all neutrals will be hostile towards you for 24 hours. It sounds like you sunk something before the declared start of the war.

it is weird: if you sink the neutral, you become an enemy of your own country, but if you start fireing at friendly units inside the port, warships or coastal batteries do not react

So then will I get a radio message or some kind of notice that the war has started? In the history books the war started with Poland before dawn on Sept. 1st and that is when I left for patrol. I don't think the war with Britain started until the 3rd but I'd say the war with Poland had to have started already?? Thanks for the welcomes and help.

Officially the WW2 started at September 1 04:45 with the start of Operation Fall Weiss. Great Britain enter the war at September 3 11:00 o'clock, France - declare war the very same day but only at 17:00.

The game cannot reproduce events hourly so in game you get everything roughly by 24 hours. In SH3 you become enemy with Poland September 1 midnight sharp, and at September 3 00:00 Britain and France declare war on Germany together the same second..

If you use: "WBNN Mission Orders" mod, best choice to use it with "WBNN Warning Orders (SH3 Cmdr)" you will deffinetly know what's going on in the world by radio messages..
