Uhh.. never played SH3+GWX, but the main go to mods for SH4 and RSRDC+TMO or RFB
Both have different flavors and many players run both because they're such extensive mods. Also, Welcome Aboard! ![]()

Yes, RFB, TMO and FOTRS are all excellent mods which add greatly to SH4.

But... erh... guys... these mods are all fine, but not even remotely close to GWX as they are Fleet Boats!

All of them have excellent AI and gameplay fixes, and most add a lot. No, they don't have the fluff that GWX provides, and I've complained about that many times, but they have what's truly important. What is really needed is the equivalent to SH3 Commander, and that's why I still play SH3 as well as SH4.

I for one do not equate eyecandy with realism. And I find the long loading times, mod fragility, AI side effects, inability to easily swap modules in and out with JSGME game killers.
Compared to that TMO is small, installs in seconds with JSGME, plays well with some others, doesn't slow SH4 down and packs a huge gameplay punch. It has eyecandy that you will see every day. It does NOT have eyecandy you might see once in a career. Like I said in a post above, TMO and RFB were consciously NOT designed to replicate GWX. They were made by people who had what they considered better ideas. Calling any of them realistic is truly laughable. There is NOTHING realistic about GWX, RFB or TMO. You can't get wet, you never buy fuel, machinery never breaks, your sonar man works for the IJN, there are no wolfpacks, you cannot talk to Admiral Donitz, you cannot move torpedoes from the bow torpedo room to the aft torpedo room or vice versa, nobody smells and you can't die. I haven't even scratched half a percent of the surface. Nobody can call either sub sim in any of its mod configurations more than a couple percent realistic. You're beating a dead horse. ![]()

GWX was a Mod for SH3 based on what was known of the SH3 files at that time.
I don't consider it the 'BEST' nor the end all be all for SH3. Nor do I feel compareing what the SH4 Modders did, as to what GWX Team did, as a straight line thing. They are different Games, different files, A different AO. Also a different way of doing things, which the SH4 Modders set out to do and pulled off in a very nice way. Please stop compareing the SH4 Mods with SH3 GWX! I find it insulting to them and to myself. |

Not only that but you just can't do it! Mods were NEVER made to imitate each other. Each has its distinct personality and that is what makes each of them special.
And each of them has at least one person and some have dozens of people who have invested their talents for months to make them work the way they do. Saying one is better is just an insult to the hard work that went into all of them and doubly an insult to the modder(s) who made the one you like best.
