Default God hates me.

Apparently at some point in my life I broke a mirror while walking under a ladder while passing a group of black cats on Friday the 13th under a full moon while the planets were aligned.

Earlier today, I took a big leap forward in my SH3 career, and that was for the first time ever (after many many MANY failed attempts and weeks of trying) I had successfully took out a target using manual TDC. It was all perfect, everything went the way it was supposed to go, the torpedo hit dead center of the starboard side, one shot one kill, and I'm breaking out the beer bottles with every intention of partying until it's the crack of dawn. As of this moment, I am the happiest man on earth.

And Then it Happened.

It wasn't three seconds after the confirmed kill that I heard a big boom and all the lights in the house went out. At this point I looked up at the sky eyeballing God, who I'm sure if I could see would have a face similar to this one.

Needless to say, after the power returned and I got the chance to play again, my entire campaign data had been erased. Oh well, time to start over.....for the 5th time.

I might could make it to the end of the war someday, were it not for my god-awful luck.

Happenned to me while modding once.
Thought the whole file would be gone, and a new install required.
The file was OK. It just didn't save any of the changes.

So, I guess your situation was worse, and I can sure feel for you.

Something similar happened to me as well I think after sinking my first carrier.

Thank goodness for replay.

Seriously could be worse, a friend recently lost 2 months work of corrections and editing on his 800 page thesis.

A virus erased eveything in my computer, several novel manuscripts and SH2. Had to rewrite Kingmaker and it came out much better than the original. Some blessings come in disguise.

A battery backup power supply comes in handy even when there is no bad weather around. A person hit a power pole near me about a month ago and knocked out my power. I was running a patrol for WaW at the time and it gave me enough time to save, quit out of SH3, and get everything shut down properly. It sure is much easier to start everything back up when it was shut down properly.

It's too bad, hope that you have been able to recreate most of the time,

yeah, he thinks he's got it bad , I fell out of an ugly tree hit every branch on the way down, went to dust my self off tripped over a black cat, and knock over a barrel of salt, which decided too roll down a hill into a mirror factory.

It always seems to happen at the worst possible moment. Sadly, we've all been there so we can feel your pain.

The good news is - it can only get better, so hang in there and good hunting!

Losing all of your data might be attributed to a power surge, so I ask, do you have a surge protector to plug your computer into?? (Its the strips that plug into the wall outlet and have a switch and about 4 outlets on them) I use one and havent had problems where everything got erased in sudden power failure, just what wasn't saved.

A surge protector is useless when the power goes out.

Save up some beans. Get one of these, or similar. It won't let you play forever, but you'll have the power and time to save everything.

Actually I think I might have a surge protector laying around somewhere. Hasn't seen much use to be honest.

Now THAT looks like a useful little gadget, $110 is a little steep for someone with my budget, looks like it's time to visit a pawn shop.

-----

Began a new campaign, decided to ditch my beloved type II and go with the popular Type VII starting out. (I missed my deck gun.) Lets see how far I can get on this one without some form of bad luck creeping up.

I'll take one of those for a pile of beans...

Handy device when the lights go out.

I set sail from Penany on 6 Decemer '42 to patrol the Timor Sea. I didn't see anything. I get back on the 19th of March for ZERO renown. To add insult to injury this is the THIRD patrol worth a big bunch of Eff-all. Any request for transfer is......wait for it.....DENIED.

I've got almost 180 days at sea under my belt for zero tonnage. All my patrols are SW to Oz area - there is nothing in Perth, Darwin, Timor, Townsville or anywhere else. I'm at the point where I'm going to go against orders and set sail for the Suez and hopefully pick something up there cause this is giving me the green-apple splatters.

Just be thankful you have the memory of sinking a ship!

I stopped listening to BDU when they told me to go to a place that didn't exist (BF10 I believe.) If you are running the GWX mod I believe you don't even get any extra renown for going to and patrolling your designated sector.

Best thing to do? Go with your gut and hunt where you believe the ships are, and not where BDU tells you to.
