Default STEAM help

I just downloaded SH5. My problem is I can't find the files on my computer so that I can install some of the wicked cool looking MODs that are out there. Can anyone help me out with this.

Avox thanks alot. That was simple enough. Now with JSGME, do I need to make sure it is within the SH5 folder?

I use JSGME for several games, so I install it to C:\Program Files (x86)\JSGME (I think that's the default install location).

Installing JSGME creates a shortcut on the desktop called "Generic Mod Enabler". Make a copy of that shortcut on your desktop, it will be named something like "Generic Mod Enabler(2)". Rename the new shortcut to whatever, mine's "JSGME-SilentHunterV". Right click on this new shortcut, select properties, change the "Start in" box to the path to your SH5 ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\silent hunter 5").

Using JSGME this way lets you control mods for multiple games, with only one install.

Clicking on your newly created/renamed/modified desktop shortcut will create the MODS folder for SH5.

Hope this helps.

Avox thank you very much for breaking it down for me. Can't wait to get off work today and install some mods.

You're welcome.

I've got JSGME usage down, but am still learning to deal with SHV "Mod Soup". My suggestion is start small, install a few single mods to get familiar with resolving conflicts. If that goes well, maybe move on to a "Mega Mod"

Stoianm's video tutorials http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...02&postcount=1 have been a game saver for me. Keep in mind that that install directions he shows are a snapshot in time, and you'll need to research for yourself if any of the mods have been updated.

If you get stuck, use the JSGME "export activated mod list" function, and post your mod order here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=173193. Ask nicely, and someone will evaluate your install.

I started small, and after a few minor setbacks, have a smooth running install with Magnum Opus, its components updated, and about 15 other mods.

It's a new game vs. the craptastic release version.

If you only use JSGME for one game like me yes, you can just drop it into your SH5 folder and run it there.

(I don't like desktop clutter)

This is correct. I guess I didn't quite answer the question.

I have 8 JSGME shortcuts now, and made a folder for them on my desktop as I'm not a clutter fan either.

That's a bad path for games on Vista/Win7 64bit. Never install games to Program Files (x86) because that folder has extra restrictions to run from unless you use admin mode on the game exec. It is not a problem for most newer games but it is for lots of older games. I only allow apps to install to that folder and no games at all.

Not having any problems with SH5 on that path. I did run into some issue running FlightSim X though.

There is no choice of install path when using steam. Running/installing as administrator, and turning off "UAC" (User Account Control) works for me. SH3, 4, and 5 all run fine on steam this way.
