Warship Shadowing Somali Pirates Who Captured Four Americans

MOGADISHU, Somalia -- A warship is shadowing a yacht with four Americans on board that was hijacked by Somali pirates, a pirate said Sunday, as the vessel was reported to be moving closer to the Somali coast.

The yacht Quest was hijacked on Friday off the coast of Oman, but is now in the waters between Yemen and northern Somalia, two pirates and a Somali government official told The Associated Press.

One pirate who gave his name only as Hassan said a warship with a helicopter on its deck is near the Quest.

The pirate's claim could not be independently verified, and U.S. officials on Sunday did not release any information about the yacht. A U.S. Embassy spokesman on Saturday said officials were assessing options and "possible responses."

U.S. Admiral Provides Details of Somali Piracy Killings
09:14 GMT, February 23, 2011 WASHINGTON | Four pirates are dead and 15 are in custody, but not before they killed four Americans in the bloodiest piracy incident in recent history, the commander of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command told reporters in a conference call yesterday.

Navy Vice Adm. Mark I. Fox, who also commands the Navy’s 5th Fleet, said the pirates shot Scott and Jean Adams of California and Phyllis Mackay and Bob Riggle of Washington state. The surface vessel Quest was sailing around the world when the Somalis hijacked it off the coast of Oman.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters on Air Force One that President Barack Obama authorized the use of force if there was an imminent threat to the hostages. He said the president was informed of their deaths at 4:42 this morning.

It has to do with rationalization and Irony. People are killed everyday, in particular in this video, memorilzing the 3000 killed by bombing in 1999 ordered by Clinton, yet NOBODY even knows about it. Americans are no different then the rest of the world, yet its always such a huge deal, when "american" lives are lost. It should be a huge deal when any civilian lives are lost, and there are millions more, than 3000, or 4 americans. An Iraqi father is worth no less or more than an American mother, yet when he's killed it means nothing to people.

Ah, I get it. Naturally I assume you've searched the entire Subsim Forums archive to verify that no one here has ever expressed sadness or regret or been concerned over any other tragic incident such as the ones you've mentioned. And of course being a gifted telepath you know automatically that no one here gives, or has ever given, two-tenths of a [expletive deleted] about anything other than the US and what happens to its citizens.

Because otherwise, your "point" is pointless. People are allowed to express sadness over one incident without that action implying a lack of concern or sadness over another. Behaving like this is not the case as a means of getting all up their faces with some kind of "OMG YOU SHOULD CARE MORE ABOUT THIS INSTEAD" socio-political agenda is not the best way to win friends and influence people.
