About this game?
I am thinking of buying it, but am worried about the amount of bugs people are saying and being connected to the internet all the time. |

Start with you don't have to be connected to the internet all the time. You do have to connect to log on though.
Next. What bugs? I installed my copy of SH5 around Thanksgiving and it is very stable. There are a number of gaming issues that the mods fix. I list them in my SH5 Quick Start post. |

Hello,
never thought i would ever say that, but SH V is a tad better than the impression you get from reading the posts here or at the UBI Sh5 forum ![]() I ordered it early, but gave it back since the online conncetion broke down all the time, leaving me with an unplayable sim - so i gave it back and got a refund with no problem. I bought it again now after i heard there's only an initial connection needed any more for verification. I do not like that either, with such online requirements and sh!t sites like Facebook companies and governments can produce rather exact profiles out of what and when you play, or where you keep looking while surfing the internet. This is superfluous for the game itself, but just wants to get information on your habits, your likes and dislikes as a consumer, or your personal opinions on the government, or anything. The initial dev teams ideas were good, but it is obvious they did not have enough time to complete it - pressure from the publisher, deadlines ? We will never know .. With the free mods done by the community it is a very enjoyable game, even more at a price of now 9,99 $. SH4 is still better developed (OMEGU and KiUB mods), but SH5 will get there. Greetings, Catfish |

First you should know I love SH5. I'm not one of the masses that thinks it's crap and gripes about it. On the contrary I think SH5 is the best of the series. Here we go; 1) Visually stunning. The best in the SH series. Yes you can walk the whole boat from forward to aft and even watch the torpedoes get loaded. 2) ( Intelligent Random AI ( IRAI ) ) This mod bring new AI behavior to the aiplanes and ships. It is the first time each and every ship has a randomized fatigue model. This means each ship behaves as an individual as well as adhering to the fleet commander. This is a step up in the SH series but the credit goes to the mod. 3) Real Navigation. Not new to the SH series modding community but we have it and it brings a new level of gamming for those hardcore simmers. 4) Journal. ( NewUIs with TDC for SH5 by TheDarkWraith) adds an editable journal in game and out. I personally have wanted this forever. 5) Interaction with the crew. Yes they talk back. Not as grand as we expected but it is a start. More Crew Commands by Dialog Mod enhance this a bit but I believe we haven't begun to tap into this feature. 6) Customiztion. The ( NewUIs with TDC for SH5 by TheDarkWraith) mod allows you to change the User Interface to your liking. Numerous players now have a completely different looking sim. Just about every nuance that I every dream about having or not having I now enjoy. Personly I have been wanting to get rid of the HUD forever, yet it still there if I need it. I'm a minimalist yet many others want everything crammed on there screen at there finger tips. Now we're all happy. Last edited by Harmsway!; 01-15-11 at 08:13 AM. |

I bought it when it first came out, I don't regret buying it at all. It doesn't actually have alot of "bugs" per-say. There are a lot of design flaws but most of these have been corrected by mods.

Ive just started playing SH5 the worse thing for me was the stock interface wasn't terrible just annoying. The UI mods fixed that. Plus I wish later on we could get the IXD2 boats they're my favorite. VII boats are too limited in fuel and torpedoes. First patrol I had limited fuel unchecked just so I could get the feel of the game traveling all over the Atlantic not worrying about fuel. But next patrol the fuel will be limited.
Though saying that I love this game to me its the best out of the series. Im a sucker for eye candy and SH5 looks beautiful. If SH3 looked as good as SH5 I would go back to that for my Atlantic fix. But it doesn't not even close. I wonder if there will ever be an expansion with the IX boats. |

Myself?
I hate the Game. I can't climb a damned ladder at the very start! ![]() And NO! I'm not installing a mod that has as many bugs as the base Game so don't recommend I do so! I don't pre-Alpha test others work. I'm only interested in getting new Units into the Game. Once I've done that? I doubt I'll look back. |

![]() Regarding the mods, I use only IRAI and UHS as I consider them as patch 1.3 The rest I use are addressing only the visual part, like Enviro mod, wood deck, flags etc. And I enjoy the game very much, even after a year of play. I consider my boat an old faulty and damaged boat, so I have to "work" with the tools I got and be creative. My boat is floating and thats all that matter :P The really great part in SH5 is the dynamic campaign. Its very well done and full with surprises. You can never know what you can expect once out on a patrol. Even skipping all the missions in the whole campaign, the dynamic campaign engine can offer a LOT of fun, especially after 42. And there is the beauty of the 3D environment. The chains are finally broken and we can explore the sub, in and out. No more need to have the UI filled with dials, buttons and abuse the mouse with millions of clicks. There is a mod for voice command that gives you the opportunity to give out your orders without clicking and feel like a real captain. As a conclusion, never buy Ubi games. They suck big times. But as long there is no other company interested in making another sub sim, we have to love what we got... for a very long time from now on. |

Magnum your minimalist attitude has encourage me for quite awhile now. Back in the SH2 days I used to gripe along with others about the immersion killing HUD. Over the years people seem to have forgotten about that. Now with SH5 I find you to be refreshing in that you're not cramming the crap out of your screen. I have no interest in little faces and dials a mouse click away. I really like the changes SH5 brings to the screen. But I got to tell you I tried the NewUIs with TDC for SH5 by TheDarkWraith about a week ago and it's nothing like I thought. Nothing is force on you that you don't want. It is set up for complete customization. My screen now has the SH5 style interface but it all disappears when I don't need it. I use crew dialog or key commands for most everything. One day I'll try voice command. What I like about the NewUI mod is it has an editable captains journal. Very nice feature for writing down you own log entries. It also has an outstanding Radio Message dialog. These two things are much more then just changing how the screen looks. Also along with the NewUI mod I added; - Arclight_MRP w/MRP 16x9 patch and - ERM_Reaper7_NightVision_BlackSkin which are included in TDW mod. I think you were instrumental in the Black Skin. Thanks I love that look. - Real Navigation There are other nice features to TheDarkWraith mod too, like the free cam. That helps me read some of the actual dials on the sub. Oh I can't think of everything but the list goes on, TDC dials, SOAN, Flag book, speed tables, maps tools, AOB tool and ect. Something to think about. I resisted NewUI for a good two months, really I did. Gene |

In my opinion, the thing we need to work towards is stock SH3 standard. then (I think) it will be easier. with privateer helping out, I doubt you can go wrong!

For me it's the lack of a real automated TDC, torpedo solution. I can't hit anything.... so frustrating.
