Send more dip!

The Bizarre, Unsatisfying Things Soldiers Receive in 'Care Packages'

http://www.theatlantic.com/internati...ackages/62507/

Quote:
"If they really want to support their troops," a soldier from the 1-502 Infantry Battalion told me last month in Kandahar's unpleasant Zhari district, "folks should quit it with all the other stuff and just send more dip."

I got a good laugh out of this. But you know... thinking back... it's true. I and alot of people I knew (despite it being another time, and another place), had a pretty good dip habit. I quit when i got out, but while I was in, I had a dip ring in the front left pocket of my BDU pants. Maybe I thought I was cool, or maybe it was all the heavy equpiment I was around or operating. *shrug*

But.... You can't always smoke, but you can almost always dip or chew, and nicotine calms the nerves. That solider has a point. I wonder where i can mail a log of Skoal, Kodiak, or Copenhagen. (or Caugh n gaggin as it was sometimes called).

Good thing i don't dip now though. But when your deployed overseas? Phhht nobody cares about something that might kill you 20 to 50 years later with so many things that can jack you up in the here and now.

Well, all I have to say is that while the soldiers are shooting their weapons, and the Air Force is dropping their bombs, and the Navy is shooting their missiles utterly destroying the enemy, I better not hear of any GI spitting on the ground!!!!

In a moment of complete befuddlement on a command level, we received a bunch of care packages once, after we returned from patrol. WTF was the catch phrase of the day then.

You know at my first assignment, every truck in my duty section had dip streaks running down the exterior door panels - on both the driver and passenger side. Kinda funny looking back on it now. If one was to line up stake bed trucks, you could tell who the engineers were, just look for the dip streaks from them spitting out the window constantly.

haha, so I was not the only one who had the association that the troops receive huge amounts of taco chips and nothing to dip them in!

I totally thought this thread was about French Onion, or for a very special occasion the wonderful Artichoke Heart, Spinach and Parmesan concoction over at our local int'l market.

Allow me to dispel any rumors of privacy while deployed. ( At least from my experience) You sleep in a tent, or bunker, with 10-12 other dudes who know (or learn) everything about you, and give each other a rash of crap for the hell of it. Suffice to say, Rosy palm and her five sisters will not be paying you any congical visits until you get home.

they could volunteer for perimeter duty, dig a foxhole and itllbe just like being at home, without the possibility of rejection AND your child/wife/mom/friend cant walk in on you!

I think the best chance to rub one out might be an outhouse or portajohn. But then, nobody wants to hang out for very long in one of those hot, smelly, fly infested things.

Yeah, but can you do that and watch the perimeter at the same time?

Seriously, I bet this is how the Battle of the Bulge started.
