Default What do you think of this women?

I attend mass every Sunday afternoon and there's always this thin lady sitting a few pews back from the altar that seems to be causing a disturbance.

You see every time the congregation sing any song she would at the end of it suddenly sang in a clearly wrong pitch longer than the whole people so her voice gets to be heard by the entire church congregation.

As I usually sit quite near her I observed that she seemed to be doing that on purpose. She would only change her pitch at the end of any song and make it longer than the entire congregation.

Nobody dared to do something about her. I say she is harassing the mass(service). People around would turn their head towards her but she seemed to enjoy that and not be ashamed at all. Even the altar boys and girls would turn their head to her.
Weeks after weeks she would do this.

Any comment?!

Thin, dark skinned and somewhat ugly overall . . .why does it matter?

I don't believe she is mentally ill or crazy.

Because when you have a thread titled "What do you think of this woman?" people expect cheesecake.

I'd solve the problem by hanging out in a bar, instead, myself

Precisely.....she could also have a learning disability or any number of other reasons.

Why can't the vicar, pastor or whoever take her to one side before or after the next church assembly and try and ascertain the rationale for her behaviour?

As a man of the cloth - I say as long as she is just being an idiot - let her. The less reaction she is given, the less she will get out of the efforts to disrupt - and she will tire of the game - or she will escalate her disturbances, giving the church reason to bar her from attending. She has to cross that line - and so far, she hasn't. The priest also may wish to take it up privately with her if he feels her current actions are too disruptive to be allowed, but not enough to bar her.

Because its a mass, the level of structure is a bit... cast in stone. Were it a protestant church, you would get a different reaction to be sure. I have seen this in a protestant church - to where the pastor organized a rather ... cruel response. During songs, early in the final chorus was cut out at specified times by everyone - except the disruptive person - who was caught singing in key and oblivious - to which everyone started pointing and laughing at them. About three songs into it, the person got pissed, stormed out, and from what I understand, never returned to that church.

Sounds like this teenager who attended my church a few months back who would hoop and hollar "Amen!" after every little thing the Pastor said, and would clap his hands a bit too much just to make a scene.

Thankfully, after two weeks of 2 hours of his b.s. I haven't seen him since

But that wouldn't help me feeling annoyed. Maybe I should move farther next time but i like where I usually sit at.

That's a bit too cruel though he may deserve it.

@ Castout,
have you ever talked to her? (does she seem of able mind)?
Does she attend alone? Does anyone know her personally? I'm thinking maybe she does this elsewhere...
there may be underlying issues with this lady, perhaps a medical condition?
Inferiority complex...insecurities, people tend to gain attention for various reasons, those are just two.
Hard to comment on someone if you don't know their habits etc.

Good spot eh? I guess if it makes it hard for you to be a part of the service you may have to find another good vantage point. Have you attempted to communicate with the lady?
I guess what i'm pointing to is, when communicating with someone, you tend to get a feel for a person, perhaps even indirectly finding out why a person does certain things.
You could be very diplomatic and say to her: Gee you are really enjoying the service, aren't you? Or: Whenever you attend, you seem so enthusiastic and energetic with your participation.
These sorts of neutral yet probing questions can often lead to answers, without directly offending said person.
We don't want to offend, we just want to alleviate this problem, don't we?

Did she sing wrong and did not realise it, or couldn't do any better? then she should be helped.

Did she behave wrong intentionally, in order to provoke? Then it would be an opportunity to practice some Klingon diplomacy: kick her until she stops or leaves.
