Default Besides SH what's your all time favorite sim? (air, land or sea)

Please, do not say The Sims...

Microsoft Flight Simulator X: you need a hell of a rig to run it, but if you have one... boy it is nice.

for combat sim

Janes World War Two Fighters. Came out in 1998, so its old, but it remains one of my favorite combat flight simulators

I played the trainz games for a while . You really need to buy the razorback scenarios though .

I am not really into flight sims , my son has model planes and i would rather watch him fly those .
SH5 will be my only game atm if they fix it and the modders hang around .

Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, followed by European Air War, Their finest Hour, Hind and Il-2 for air sims.

Operation Flashpoint as an infantry simulator(if it's allowed) followed by M1 Tank Platoon(first one).

Aces of the Deep for sea.

I know more modern sims are better, more realistic blah blah, but SWOTL, EAW, M1, Op Flash, Aces etc. just had a magic at the time of release for me that meant spending countless hours on them that I haven't done with more modern titles.

Really enjoyed IL-2 for a few years.

Real tricky to fly a plane with a beer and a cigarette on the go though.

So I always tend to come back to Subsims.

Favourite sims, in no particular order:
  • Aces of the Deep
  • Silent Hunter 3 with or w/o GWX
  • T34 vs Tiger
  • Armored Fist 3
  • UBM (SH4 add-on)

IL2, Even tho i´m totally crap at it. Its still fun. Back in the days i also played WW2 online, and was mostly flying stuka bombers. Tons of fun.

Flashpoint and ARMA series are the game that covers infantry/armored combat. (Only BIstudios, not the new dragon rising franchise ripoff)

I also enjoy racing sims like GTR / Richard burns rally..

I have a hard time playing arcade style games for some reason. The more "realistic" the game, the better. I guess its because i like games with steep learning curve, It gives alot of satisfaction once you learned to master them =)

I do enjoy to play MW2 online for some reason. Doesn't get more arcade

Same here Lognoreng.
If I didn't get shot down, and managed to actually land rather than crash I considered it a successful mission.

Glad to hear somebody appreciates Operation Flashpoint as what it is instead of saying Call of Duty is much better...

Air : Wings of Prey (funny title - bad translation I guess) on realistic mode it is really breathtaking + you can fly hurricanes and spitz aswell as me109s+JU87s

Land : Operation Flashpoint Resistance + WWII mods for that realistic infantry experience

Sea : Silent Hunter 4 + Op Monsun and full manual targetting 100% realism, always trying to recreate das boot (succeeding regularly)

anyway, those are my personal favourites

Don't get me started on Op Flash! The times I spent just crawling and hiding in the bushes, peering through binoculars for threats, just to make a dash for the next tree line....or the mad chaos of combat where you just open up in the general direction of the enemy and then run hell for leather with your squad for cover not knowing if the next whizzing bullet you hear will be the one that gets you. Even Arma II didn't have that feeling. It felt too Ghost Recon like. I just wanted to be a grunt(preferably Soviet/Russian ) and not the trend these days where you're always some uber-equipped SpecOps killer.

Still waiting for that highly detailed, immersive, high end-graphics sports climbing simulator, but until then, Falcon 4.0 Allied Force all the way.

Followed by Silent Hunter III, I suppose.
