HI.
I have read somewhere that you dont get reown for patrolling your area such as AM26 etc...... While playing with the GWX3 Mod? Ok that being said... 1. What good is even going to the area? if not pts are given? 2. What is the point of the game. at that point your supposed to have a CO to report to not just go out where ever you feel like it. I feel there is no point to the game and it looses some realizim. I mean there wasnt Sub CO's just running around were there? After they reached the patrol are they were either given a msg to goto another area or the Captian was a rough CO and then took his sub some where else on a hunch. Shouldn't there be some kind of goal for each mission? |

You are correct, with GWX3 the renown awards for reaching your assigned grid and patrolling it for 24 hours have been removed from the game. I don't know the reason for this but obviously it was the decision of the GWX team to do it that way.
You can easily put them back in, however, either by editing the basic.cfg file or by using the Renown Replacement mod here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1182 I prefer just editing the relevant lines in the cfg file myself rather than letting the mod replace it entirely. You can also use another mod that will give you a change of orders mid-patrol in the form of radio messages from BdU telling you to patrol additional grids if you have the fuel and torpedos to do so. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1502 IIRC though this mod is for SH3 Commander and should be enabled (preferably with JSGME) after placing it in a MODS folder inside the Commander folder, rather than the game folder itself. |

As to the question of whether you should bother patrolling the assigned area, that's really up to you.
How do you want to play the game? Some people here will freelance. The assigned area is just a suggestion, right? I'm gonna go to where I know the action is. Nothing wrong with this. Others view BDU orders as sacrosanct. That's my patrol area - I'm gonna stay in it for my whole patrol. If that means I see nothing for 3 or 4 weeks then so be it. Many U Boats during the war had the same experience. Nothing wrong with this approach either. I've tried this myself, but I'm just not disciplined enough to stick with it for a whole patrol. So, I play a sort of compromise. I patrol my assigned grid ref for, oh I dunno, say 3 or 4 days. Single radio contacts outside this area are off limits, unless they happen to be heading for my grid. Any Convoy radio report in an adjacent square is fair game for an intercept. If after 3 or 4 days I have seen nothing, I assume BDU would reposition me. Pick an adjacent square, then start the process again, another 3 or 4 days. After that, I can pick another adjacent square etc etc etc ... That way if I am assigned a grid ref way off the beaten track, I can slowly, over the course of a patrol, work my way towards known shipping lanes. It's gonna cost me time and fuel, but I feel like I am heading in the right direction, without just being a freelance operator. I also have the Mid Patrol orders mod installed, so I can I ask for a reassignment if I want. With the caveat that if I ask to be reassigned, I HAVE to go to the new grid. Even if it is at the arse end of nowhere.. As you have found out Kryton, there is nothing in the game that forces a mode of patrol on you. You gotta use a bit of imagination and self discipline, and roleplay it to a certain extent. It really is up to you how you want to play it mate. These are just a couple of suggestions ![]() |

While you do have some good points sergei
![]() I still think I should get some reown for patroling the assigned area though yes I do act on some of the radio msg's and go out of the patrol area I still did my duty and should get rewarded even if it is just a little bit. ![]() but go Rough after you've patrolled is always a good idea especially if you have a full bank of torps

So rather than have some theaters WITH renown for hitting your grid, and others without it, they just made them all without it. I agree, I think this was a bad plan. I think you should get points for fulfilling your mission. Steve |

The Renown Replacement mod will replace the GWX cfg file with one that includes those values, which were changed to 0 by GWX. FYI if you edit the file manually to put the 400 and 200 back in the relevant lines, don't bother changing the value for the line below them that looks like it might award renown for returning to base, the game will not award renown for that even if you put something other than 0 there. It's a stock bug that no one has found a fix for yet. |

As Frau Kaleun has pointed out, it is fairly easy to put it back in, just a quick edit of a cfg file. Although the stock values of 400 and 200 do seem a tad high to me. I'm thinking of putting the renown reward back into my own game when (if ![]() By this stage in the war just getting to a patrol area in one piece is an achievement. ![]() Again Kryton - however you want to play it ![]() |
