What am I missing?
For a long time I thought I liked to watch racing. I liked all sorts of motorsports from F1 to IRL to NASCAR and other series. For a while now, though, I just can't get into it anymore. It has gotten boring to me. It's like watching a type of high speed parade. Road courses don't have much overtaking and oval courses usually turn out the same - if you seen one you seen them all (just who wins seems to change). I'm tired of seeing races won or lost in the pits and a single file progression around the track when watching road courses. It seems as if there is no real "racing" anymore. I don't even bother tracking races anymore. How do you think I could make it interesting again?

Nothing.
If you are no longer interested, then you are no longer interested. There is no obligation for you to be interested - so why pushing for it? Times change, so do men - so do you. Old interests may fade out, new interests may come in.

Well if you do go to a live event your in for quite a shock.
I went to daytona and was amazed as to how different it 'really' is when compared to how its portrayed on television. The cars bounce and sway much more violently, the sound, the smells, you will never look at racing the same again. Now that being said, I think that in a lot of ways parity has led to boring racing. Every one is so equal that they run around bunched up nose to tail till a mistake is made and then they all pile into one another ![]() Back to daytona I specifically remember the pack of competetive cars come roaring by, followed a few moments later by the wannabes with misfiring notes putterng by. It was strange there was the A group and then the rest.

Try watching Rallies. Over here they are usually broadcasted at a horrible time but at least they don't get so boring simply because of the driving style (especially on gravel and snow).

Stock car racing died for me directly after they stopped using stock cars. The days of old were you raced them Sunday and drove them to work on Monday are long gone. Today it is tubed frames, fiberglass body and a whole bunch of rules. Where is the fun in that?

The answer is simple. Motorbike racing. Formula 1 and car racing in general follow the same trend, which is one long line of cars following each other round for countless laps with maybe the odd overtake and crash. most cars are too large to over take each other on the more technical tracks.
Motorcycles on the other hand are small enough to over take each other in the middle of a corner while almost horizontal. Its very fast, very dangerous and very entertaining. Motogp for example has had some nail biting finishes in recent races much like the final race of last years F1. Unlike F1 however this is a regular occurrence in the GP. There are more crashes and as you would expect the bike crashes are more spectacular too ![]() Now im a man who loves cars too and basically any sort of engineering. So while i do love motorbikes i would love to see some car racing as intense as the bikes but at the moment its just not happening ![]()
