Default Gaming revolution ahead?

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/new...hp?story=22875

No ridiculous expensive gaming hardware anymore. No insane expensive constant tech updates anymore. No sinful expensive nVidia and Intel and ATI chips needed. An if they release a Linux client: no need to stick with Windows anymore.

Sounds almost too good to be true, or what? I do not want to know what hardware manufacturer now will start to try in intrigues and lobbying to prevent this coming true.

I would have thought: "April 1st", but it is May 24th.

1mb per second connection? That could be a problem for a lot of people.

Nice concept, but seems a long way of. Personally I'd still prefer my own box, without the monthly fees BS. Even with high-speed connection, lag could be a problem. I'm not too convinced by their claim to this "solution", whatever it is.

Why its a capatilist venture so if it is sucessfull and makes lots of money it must be viewed as a threat.

Feel batter now?

No thanks. I don't need a service that can analyse what I'm playing, when I'm playing and how long I'm playing.
I rather buy the hardware and have my privacy.

Hmm, it seems pointless, constant internet connection doesn't always work that well even when you only have to transfer server/client data in games, I should think that letting remote machines do all the processing would be very unstable (and slow) unless you're so close to the server that it'll be easier to just play on it

Besides, I'd rather have a good computer than have to rely on my internet connection to play

Kinda old news as a concept (big animation/3d companies use methods like this to cut down render times), but I doubt it would work that well in gaming.

Yeah, but when you have a Render farm each of the servers are wired to each other, much less stable when you have to rely on the internets

The entire scheme seems so full of potential problems which can not be avoided that it does not seem worth it to me. besides I enjoy tinkering arround with my PC hardware, even troubleshooting hell can be fun when looking back on it and laughing at the drustration it caused at the time.

Sounds similar to owning a gaming concole really, without actualy owning anything.
