Default Were you born a Republican/Democrat or did you just become one?

I wonder how much of our tax dollars were spent for this pile of tripe.

http://pagingdrgupta.blogs.cnn.com/2...ogical-traits/

"The differences between Democrats and Republicans may form well before you’re able to vote. In fact, you may actually be born with your conservative and liberal views."

"The participants with traditional conservative views — supportive of the Iraq war, death penalty, immigration reform and The Patriot Act — had strong physical reactions to the threatening images of spiders and calm reactions to the non-threatening images of bunnies and happy children."

"Those with more liberal views — low support of Iraq war and higher support of gay marriage, gun control and abortion rights — showed no differences in reaction when viewing the threatening and non-threatening images. They appeared to physically react to the same to an image of a bowl of fruit and one of an open war wound."

“We estimate your biological makeup has a 30 to 40 percent role in how you will vote,” says Alford. “The other portion is how and where you were raised as well as environmental factors”

And this was based on the observation of 46 people. 46! That's all.

Ya know, I remember when science actually meant something. I remember when scientists had to be smart people and they had to follow a pretty strict analytical methodology.

I guess them days is gone. Study based on 46 people. Sad really

So Republicans are afraid of spiders and Democrats can't tell the difference between a kumquat and a bullet wound.

My tax dollars well spent.

heh, we wanted to sample more people, but we couldn't get the funding.

Anyway, the sheer viscera of some US politics begs research. Not sure if this is it.

Born a democrat, but having seen family members with their ideaology that the government needs to take care of them, I chose the GOP.

Well, since the original Republicans ultimately became the Democrats, and most of their original doctrines were extremely conservative by today's standards; and since the new Republican party was originally arguably more liberal than today's Democrats; and since I believe in some of the liberal tenets, but only at the state level, never at the federal, which is arguably conservative; and since I hold mostly conservative beliefs but feel that neither party is truly what they project nor what the other side accuses them of...

I was born totally brainless and innocent, just like everybody else. Are we 'born' one or the other, in that we have an inate tendency to feel that way, or are we trained to feel the way we do by our overall upgbringing? Nature vs Nurture? Black vs White? In vs Out? Up vs Down?

Having reached the age where I can make my own decisions, I find myself becoming more independent every day. I hate parties, and I hate party politics. It's all cliques and clubs, and my side's right and your side's stupid.

And so's the guy who did that study.

I second that.
Poor use of the scientific method there. It is best to avoid mixing science and politics whenever possible.

Poor incentive= poor results.

Psych experiments tend to require a smaller sample size.

Example - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment

Seriously, how can you attempt to research a concept that has nothing to do with base human instinct or emotion....

Yes, it is better to say I was born into a democratic family. As I cited a personal reason for registering republican, I also saw the morale of the military at an all time low in the 70's. Public opinion was stated by having signs that said "Sailors stay off the grass" in public parks in Virginia... I saw a true leader in Ronald Regan, a man that America needed at that time in history. Today we need true reformation in may areas of our government and our economic policies. I would vote for a democrat if i felt they were going to stand up and swing the bat. Sure, why not?
