Question on Installing NYGM 3.0

An easy question to answer, no doubt, but I've forgotten...so:

From the release of NYGM 3.0 thread:

Download NYGM3_0.7z from my signature, unzip it with 7-Zip or WinRAR, and copy it into your folder silenthunteriii\mods.

Do you need to unzip it to somewhere temprary, such as a folder on desktop, then copy from there? Can you just tell it to unzip directly to the SHIII\mods? When it comes to copying, does this mean you simply copy the main folder to the silenthunterIII\mods folder? The main folder has 'data' and 'documentation' sub-folders. Do they ALL go to the SHIII\mods, in which case copying the main folder will do, or only 'data'? Within the main folder there are also various things like the manuals - do you need to copy them to the mods folder (isn't that what will happen if you copy the 'data' and 'documentation' main sub-folders to the mods folder?

With respect to SHIII Commander updates, do you need to update Cmdr with the cmdr files from the NYGM_2.5_fulon and then from 3.0, or can you just do the 3.0 files?

As I said, probably simple to answer, but I can't remember the correct way of doing it, and there are some issues that aren't really clear from the instruction (at least not to me).

Cheers

It's been a while since I've installed NYGM, but as with GWX it's a total replacement mod and should be installed over a fresh install without using JSGME. Meaning, don't put anything into the Mods folder, just everything in data goes into data and overwrites what's there. Same for the docs folder.

You'd than put other mods you want to use in the Mods folder and use JSGME to overlay those over your base NYGM install.

@Steeltrap:

You must start any installation of NYGM with a clean installation of SH3 itself, and its patch 1.4b.

This does not mean that you must wipe out any existing SH3 installation, since you can install SH3+NYGM on a different partition of your hard-drive, if you wish. However, in that case you should rename your existing folder \my documents\sh3 to protect it from being overwritten.

When you have your clean installation of SH3 + 1.4b, you must now download in order:
1. NYGM 2_5 'Fulon'.7z (=full version) from my signature below.
2. NYGM 3_0.7z.
3. Any optional items, such as IABL's new merchant fleet or Hitman's Optics Mod (both strongly recommended, incidentally).

You need to make a mods folder in your new silenthunteriii folder. That is, if you have the default Ubisoft installation of SH3, you will have to create folder C:\Ubisoft\silenthunteriii\mods (next to the data folder).

Unzip all your downloaded NYGM files directly into the new mods folder. 7-zip is recommended, some people have reported difficulties with WinRAR.

Install your mods *in the order shown above* with J Scones' JSGME application. You probably know how to do this already. If not, full instructions are provided with JSGME. (A new version of JSGME has just been released.) Although you can copy the files across directly, JSGME is very strongly recommended! This enables you to reverse the copying process very easily whenever you feel like it.

The documentation files from NYGM will not be copied across into the SH3 documentation (it serves no game purpose). Read them in the mods folder.

For SH3Commander you need only the latest updates from NYGM 3.0, not from any earlier version.

Good luck!

Stiebler.

Thanks Stiebler

Haven't used NYGM for quite a while - looking forward to it.

Cheers
