Default Will gamers ever have to upgrade to Vista?

Who still thinks that gamers will have to upgrade to VISTA?

I am running XP. And have no plans to upgrade whatsoever. Just what annoys me is when people still spread opinions like this:

Whether you like it or not, gamers have to upgrade to Windows Vista sooner or later to enjoy DirectX 10 titles like BioShock or Cyrsis. For this, you need a DirectX10 compliant videocard, and it doesn't hurt if it's HDCP compliant and natively supports HDMI output, Shader Model 4.0, and all manner of High Definition content.

Taken out of context from a review on PCSTATS

It seems a lot of people take for granted that history will always repeat itself. But lets face it, if VISTA happened to be not from Microsoft, it would have tanked. And as it happened to be from them, it is still alive, but it must be the least unopular os in the world.

Actually I dont like MS bashing, they released quite a few very good products ..

MS goal is to axe xp in 2010. By then Vista should be operating perfectly with SP3.5 to the power of 100th

Xp professional has extended support until 2014, thats more than what Vista Ultimate is getting. :rotfl: How's that for an ironic situation ?
Those who have and use without problems xp are better off waiting directly for Vista's successor.

Unless MS next windows is better then yes sooner of later xpgamers will have no choice but move to Vista, same back when Windows98se was the gaming platform most saw winXP as if it was the plaque. XP got slammed the same how Vista is getting slammed today. But in the end we had no choice.

Prediction: by 2011 XP wont be one of the OS's in the minimum sys specs on your new game cover...:hmm:

as i remember it, the criticism of XP compared to 98 in no way compares to what Vista is facing in criticism now. Also, while the first SP is said to have adressed some issues with Vista, I do not get the impression that Vista is regenerating and repairing as "fast" as XP did.

If 64 Bit for the usual gamer-office-user really will be a must so soon, remains to be seen. And if 64 Bit will be needed just to run Microsoft'S next crazy OS, I will boycott both as long as 32 Bit is available as a cheaper alternative. Even madness has to have limits and you do not need a Cray to run Office or Word. You even do not need it run FS. The progress cycle is accelerating on and on, and that is not good, since man has biollogical limits - as well as the content of his wallet.

More important is to get new CPUs and GPUs that do not consume power as if it is the last day of party on earth. the level of power consummation of PCs as well as internet-related installation has reached the realm of ridicule, as has the habit to let PCs run even when you sleep, as if they are a refrigerator, just to "be available". what is so wrong to switch on the system when you sit at it - and THEN check you email instead of having it stroed on your HD already? This kind of habits are stupid and headless. well, growing and even exploding energy prices in the forseeable future will have a strong educational effect, I expect.

On a different note: any news on SP3 for Windows XP? Will there be a SP3-version o0f XP inclduing it? I might be tempted to get that one, as long as the price is reasonable. Telephone-activating my old copy prooved to be a pain (the number of regular actications after many reinstalls have has been used up).

You will need to upgrade to a 64bit OS when you want more than a few gig of ram.

32bit is finished in my books. Great for writing or emails but Heavy gaming graphic..... Captain she can't handle the pressure. She going to blow.
Next system 64 bit all the way. I'm not a fan of AMD but lately with Intels high preformance chips are 3 times more expensive than five years ago, so I'm going to break my normal comfort zone and switch.. Plain and simple your getting better bang for the buck.

I think you're information is outdated by a year or two. Today the C2 is the king. Have a look at the new Wolfdales. They're maybe the best bang for the buck you ever got.

I don't like Macs and I usually don't even like people who like macs. But well afterall it's their decision if they prefer to spend twice.

Just compare the people who're in charge. Jobbs is known to be an arrogant s.o.b. Bill Gates is as far as I know a really nice guy.

C2 = Core 2; C2D = Core 2 Duo (dual core); C2Q = Core 2 Quad (Quad core)

Just to add my 2 cts worth before I've had my morning coffee.

What OS you use or have and whether it's 32bit or 64bit has alot for some of us to do with what we use our computers for.

Me at 57yo it's strictly for gameing and surfing the net. In other words PURE Fun and Games. (had first cup). And so far my homebilt plays the games(sims) just fine for me.

On the other side of the street others use their rig for work. And the type of work they do can have alot of impact on what OS they use and if it's 32 or 64 bit. And gameing on it is a small consideration on why it is so powerful and High End. (second cup)

I forgot where I was headed with this. But to sum it up it's a matter of NEEDS and WANTS. IMHO. (FINAL CUP)

Btw Good Morning to All

Yeah, you really need to get some new information. Maybe you should read this:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...-wolfdale.html

QUOTE: All dual-core processors from AMD are slower than the new Core 2 Duo E8000 series, which automatically ousts them from the $150+ price segment, where Intel’s dual-core solutions will now become the only player.

Maybe also surf to a big hardware reseller site (I believe in the US Newegg is pretty popular) and read the user reviews.

4 gb is a hard limit for 32 bit systems. Unfortunately I also keep hearing that XP by default its rather 2.75 gb.
