Default Pls help to sink Yamato..

Hello everyone. Well, after few years of Ubisoft IL2 in the air, I am stack now with SH4 now.. and seems like for long :p

This forum got me into the game and so far I had no major problems.. However, these days I am left with 6 torpedos and want to sink the Yamato one. Yep met them.. Last time I did it, it took me about 8 or 9 topedos I think. After few tries now I am runnning out of options. I try to hit them 1 by 1 into the same hole or spread them, nothing helps.. Pls help, how to target and where. I am running enable of all realism options, except manual targetting - this one will come a little bit later.. Pls advice.

Thanks.

Set your running depth at about 20 feet; any shallower will send it into the armor belt and so do almost no damage.

Target just under each turret; you have a higher chance of setting off the magazines.

When I sank my first Yamato it took 9 torpedoes, five spread out over the starboard side and four on the port side. It may take more; the manual recommends a minimum of 14 hits to ensure sinking. I guess I just got lucky.

Try to spread them out as much as possible. Just smashing the same place over and over doesn't help; in seconds it will have been sealed to be watertight by the crew. No, your goal is to flood as many compartments as possible. Hit both sides of the ship if you can.

The actual WW2 doctrine predicted 7 torpedos to sink a BB (14 fired with 50% chance of hit with spread).

Your mileage may vary.

Also, don't try to put multiple torpedoes into the same spot - damage is not cumulative. Spread them out along the length of the hull, to spread the damage out along the length of the target.

I have to disagree with seafarer regarding cumalitve damage - if your running stock you get a sinking when damage gets to a certain number of "hitpoints" - so putting a torp into the same spot does add to the damage.

However, if your running something like NSM - then he is right.

Hmmm - really want to sink it? Well, just mod your torps to do more damage - or grab one of the torp mods out there that do the same thing. You can simply double the effectiveness of your torps for the one encounter. Sure its cheating - but still satifies in some ways! Either way - good luck!

I agree 100% with that. I had my best luck hitting at or just behind the second turret from the front. Like he states if you hit the magazine Kaboooom.
Another thing I have had some luck with when I first got the game and was doing Quick misssions, so it may not work as well in expert Career mode. If you end up with one 'dead in the water' and you have a chance to come back. Look it over, if it seems to be a bit low in the water in the stern, consentrate a couple more toward the stern. It already damaged and if you get another compartment a bit forward or aft of the present damage you might get enough water in it to put it under.
One thing to note, if you shoot your torps from one side then continue under the ship to fire the aft torps, Ah DavyJonesFootLocker isn't listening is he? shhhhhhh be very quite....The draft on that battleship is more than you would expect, Trust me! I found out the hard way.

I was delightfully surprised BTW. I didn't even know it was a Yamato class until I saw the silhouette at the last moment coming through the fog........

I frantically set depths and maneuvered at the last second for a point blank shot at about 700 yds...........The first and last time I've had a chance to set my sites on her.
