We are an odd bunch

Have you ever sat back, and reflectivly considered the following?

First we all dished out a lot of good Dollars, Euro's, Lbs, yen, or whatever monies you have for a german Submarine Sim. Please,, do not call it a Game

We awaited each upgrade like a kid at Christmas,

The wonderful volunters who have toiled and spent countless hundreds of hours to upgrade the simulator (again please, do not call it a "game")

trained, trained and memorized the weak spots of countless ships. Scowered over charts and know enigma codes better than the cypers of old England.

Read many a book of tactics, stratagies and command abilities.

have a large familiy AKA Imaginary Crew, whom you named each, award, hate(Bernard) fire, love, promote and care for, (and I thought my son was funny with just one imaginary friend) and lamented over when you saw them sink into the abyss.

and the silliest part of all (a quote here from the other half)

"why are you wasting your time ,, your just going to lose, "

In a way she is right,, this simulator you cannot win!

your thoughts?? or should I see a shrink??

You never really lose.
You just find ways NOT to do things!

The shrink will refuse to deal with this high degree of lunacy. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Did you reply to your friend "call it a weakness"!

As much as computers are a pain, just imagine living without them, I'd be totally lost!

Must you leave

The same could be said for fighting with the mighty Luftwaffe in IL2-46 Sturmovik, in the end you loose.

Now put that context into real life [history]

Your a young U-boat Captain; its 1945 and only a hand full of U-boats are left and everyone of you classmates and friend who you have met during your career are either dead or have never been heard from again.

You get a message that your superior wants to see you; you have prior knowledge [rumour] that you have been tasked to continue to take the fight to the British & Americans.

You get your orders and you brief your officers only; as you know your NCOs with be shocked to know that Hitler is persisting with the lost cause;

Its the night before you leave...........you sit in your room studying photos of your mates who are gone...............this is a lost cause..........................but my crew will look to me for leadership.......I must be steadfast.

Your wife walks in and says "Must you leave? this is a lost cause; Germany is alone ; must you go?..................

What shall you say?
What would your fallen mates say?

It`s given me many enjoyable hours, having recently lost a leg, I find myself on my computer, doing business, or playing sims, compensates for a lot of the physical activities that I`m now limited to. I set aside time to play my sims, and enjoy all the mods put out by some very talented people, my hat is off to them. Can`t say enough about this sim, and the people that continue to improve upon it. i noticed that too, that in the end the germans lose, and thank heavens they did anyway, but it adds an edge to the game, like a caged animal trying to fight out. thats why i kinda dislike SH4 because in the end you win, no matter how many ships you sink, how many medals you earn. like a lion to a lamb.

same with the german side, both the german and american sub forces were a bunch of cowboys going somewhere that only people could dream (and frequently do) both ended up fighting for their lives no matter when in the war they fought, the game manual, for it does not state

"this game is a tribute to how badly we beat the germans in WWII"
or
"this game is devoted to how we crippled japan."

its dedicated to brave men, and i think sometimes we lose sight of that.

I fail to see your point. It all seems perfectly logical to me!
