Evil black sawns! Attacked a convoy last night fire 4 shots at two ships 3 hits with one dud hehe not to bad for some frantic manual targeting - finally getting my head around that one....

Then enters everyones favorite 2x black swans the proceed of blast the hell out of my poor boat for about an hour - my boat is a mess a couple of blasts have blown away my hydrophones - feck! and have almost been sent to the bottom twice. I cant dive below 110-120 meters without taking pressure damage, if i make it home i think its only fit for scrap metal!

In any case the first one finally breaks off and heads back to the convoy the 2nd one keeps bashing away for another hour as if my boat is truely on its last legs - then the unthinkable happens... the 2nd one stops dropping eggs but keeps circling and pinging away.... its been close to two hours now since the last depth charges since his last depth charge attack, I had hopped to gain a bit of distance and try and escape on the surface at night but a quick peek around at periscope depth showed a full moon

I assume he is waiting for me to surface or for more friends to show up and im running out of ideas.... I could try and get a luck hit from one of my stern tubes, however with only one working propeller and manual targeting on a fast moving target lol - All my forward tubes are busted up - not that i have any eels left for them in any case so a 4 shot spread is out of the picture....

Advice?

Dead stop, maximum safe depth, patience and LUCK.

Actually few weeks from now i was in something similar i remember it cause it was hell.I had 3+ escorts on me and they ran out of dc but tried to find me for some hours cyrcling above me.Eventually they break of but the worse was done when i wondered why the crew is disobeying my orders of a new course ? - the rudders ,both were blown to pieces

Speed one knot, 5 degrees port or starboard rudder, silent running, hope for the best.

Good luck

(Drop a bold?) - order periscope depth (no proper ASDIC functionality) and rig for silent running. Observe the swan. Keep on showing your six and power up whenever she shows her back section (150 to 210 - no DD hydrophone function) and then fall back to 2 kts again. My favourite tactics to steal away.

Just looking at the name of this thread made me mentally hear that dreaded sound and panic for a seccond with the urge to order a crash dive ! Damn my immersive imagination !

I wonder is SHIII is giving me post traumatic stress syndrome.

Guten Abend, Redshirt,

I concur with others here: dropping to 1 knot (50 rpm) is true silent-running and can save you, provided you're not caught in the ASDIC beam. That, combined with short bursts of full speed -- only when wabos are exploding or the DD is turned away -- can help you give them the slip.

Oh, and it really helps to have a thermal layer -- a common occurrence in GWX below 90 meters.

Viel Gluck!

That is so true :rotfl:

That first ping always goes from your ears to the tip of your toes. They are searching me

Redshirt, I understand he is pinging you all the time. That means that creeping away is no use imo. Go full speed and full rudder, making circles until the pinging stops. His ping is out of reach for a moment and he will start listening where you are. Immediately go silent <100 rpm en center rudder. Then hope he won't find you again. Also take a look at the anti-escort manueuvering in the GWX manual appendix in case you can't shake him off.

Pushed the boat as deep as should would go ~110 meters dropped to 1 knot and started a slow 5 degree circle, lost him within an hour - thank god! Had used close to half the o2

Couldn't find the crippled merchant ship so im guessing it had sunk well out of sight - darn!

Limped home and about 300 km from Lorient the look out spots an aircraft - ha whats the Luftwaffe up to.... spotted a bit late that was a damn kingfisher! Manged to shot the sod down as he made his attack run but the damn thing hit the bridge with a bomb killing all my flak crew and watch officer and flooded half the central compartments, for a couple of minutes I thought i had gotten all that way only to be sunk half a day out from harbor! Patrol ended early July - Boat wasnt ready for missions till early September!
