Default So, in SH4 who has witnessed or participated in a historic battle?

You know how it is, you get that FAX traffic and it says that enemy forces are expected at Midway any time. You're either all the way at Honshu and too far to make it . . . or you are actually at Midway and are waiting and waiting for the sh!t to hit the fan but nothing happens. Or maybe it's happening just outside of Midway but the entire Navy forgot to send a contact report with the approximate location of the battle. Same with the other historic events that you read about in the FAX traffic reports.

Then again, I've missed quite a few other obvious points about SH4 so maybe somebody can tell my what I'm doing wrong. How can I get in the middle of one of these whopper battles? Is it even possible? Or are these battle myths like the moon landings?

If you're playing stock know the stock campaign is s**@ and most of those battles are not modelled properly or at all....gotta wait for the modders to build real campaigns like they did with SH3. The "Run Silent Run Deep" mod looks promising.

I was leaving Pearl on June 2, 1942 and decided to head NW of Midway and look for the IJN carriers since I knew their approx. location in real life. Well midday on the 4th I spot friendly ships and sure enough it is a US task force built around a carrier. I note their heading, make some adjustments and then speed up time to allow them to pass when all of a sudden I get all of the collision sounds and the game gives me the death screen. When it zoomed out I saw that I had collided with the carrier. I guess I am lucky that I died because I have no idea what they would have done with me back at Pearl after that. I lost my boat, lost my crew and ripped a hole into a Yorktown class carrier during a major battle. I'm sure once news of this spread throughout Japan I would be given a medal.

Heh heh, I hope I don't experience Midway like that!

Many of the more important surface engagements are impossible since there are no ship-launched torpedoes.

The IJN without the type 93 torpedo is hard to grasp.
