Default [WIP} Clipboard News

Please look at the link below:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=122547

I was toying aroung with the idea of making more informative and interesting CINPAC news clipboard messages. The were funny at first with the vanilla game but they grow old. Last night I changed many of these messages and was able to add new messages. Would the community like a mod that would provide new messages, accurate messages and a bit more variety? Now, one would think that you would be getting slammed with messages all the time. Not so, the program offers low/high priority settings. Probability in % that the sub will receive the message. Date and time to send and stop sending the message is also adjustable. This can really add some content to the game and the overall war effort. I have already found pages upon pages of news and events that can be added.

After looking at the my link above, you can see were I added X UNRESTRICTED SUBMARINE WARFARE IS APPROVED X. These are the messages I can create and also assure you will receive the message.

Some Pac News as an example: December 10, 1941 Pan American Airways Clipper plane landed in the Treasure Island seaplane harbor with bullet holes from a strafing at Island on Dec 7.

Of course the operational news can be embellished a bit more than what we have. Let me know if anyone would be interested in this small but possible immersive mod for the clipboard.

Default At least one interested party

Count me in. Some of the jokes were funny the first time around, but a little more realistic info would be much appreciated on the second and subsequent careers.

I know one thing that I would appreciate and that is some locational information when I receive a message from CinCPac regarding some battle where assistance is needed. I (and I hope I'm not alone here ) am about as geographically challenged as is possible without an interstate number and a mile marker to go by. Coordinates for some of the lesser known areas might be helpful with the text requesting nearby units to assist. And before anyone says it, I will admit to being lazy for not looking it up myself:p .

Slightly off-topic (but not really) there is also a method to cause clipboard messages to arrive timed with the scripted events in radio files.

This can be done. I'm given just so much room to type the message but usually enough to get the point across. I plan on using factual information both for news and war intelligence. Last night I was able to add the massage for unrestricted warfare. So things that were said and done can go into this. Like I said, you will not be swamped with messages as you can reduce plenty of things to reduce that from happening and you can also make sure it transmitted as well.

I've tried adding Admiral Stark's "unrestricted warfare" message myself, but never got it to work. If you can, I would definitely be interested.

Also, the Pearl Harbor attack message doesn't work either when you start before Dec. 7th. The notice comes up, on both the message box at top and in the clipboard, but there's no message body. Can/have you fixed that?

Exactly Fred. It bothered me that there was no message there. I got it to work and added other things. Radio traffic will be quite busy in the beginning as there was confusion and misdirection. The men wanted to hear what was happening. That is what I'm attempting to emulate. The I will tone it down to normal routine with occassional news, etc.

Go look at my link in the first post and see the unrestricted message I added.

Found the message and will add. Currently I'm using Taters campaign mod and it will be tailored for this but I wall also make one for those using the stock campaigns.

This sounds petty cool. Something which adds a lot of immersion to GWX on SH3 are the intercepted messages from and to other boats giving patrol results, requests for overdue boats to report and the odd SOS etc. They give you a greater sense that you're not alone and there is a greater war going on 'out there'.

Mission Possible immersive mod for the clipboard.

It would be nice,to get classified time-line massages from ComSubPacSw,(Asiatic)on progress at Guadalcanal/early war,& Tokyo Express movements. These messages would be damn immersing. If you want to do this mod,you could call it,
(Torsk Messages Mod) to honor your Baltimore boat,The input from restoration crew would be invaluable,as would be there humor.Good project ! IMHO.

This sounds great AVG. Another fantastic immersion booster for the game. Can't wait till your finished.

I'm with you Monolith, the clipboard is pretty lame. An actual log book combined with AVG's work on the message system would be the balls.
