Default Is TM compatible with low-realism gaming style?

My dad is gonna play SH4, and I want it to the best game possible. I suppose the latest Tmaru is the logical choice.

The problem is that my dad doesn't have the same idea of gaming as I do. He will play it quite acadly, cuz he wants it to feel like good old Silent Service II. My question is: is Tmaru compatible with low-level realism gaming, or do certain improvements make this kind of combination get into conflict, frustrating for a casual player like him?

Thanks!

AJ

It can be. He just has to play at 0% Realism.

Well he doesn't want a shoot'em up either
But is a 30% (well ok that's pretty much a shoot em up at this point) realism game with vanilla and with TMaru pretty much equivalent? I suppose so...?

Funny thing about the generations - usually it's the older people who want gaming which absorbs and immerses them, while the younger ones want super-fast action. My son and I are that way. Your dad must be the exception that proves the rule. Why not let him explore the realism settings and sort it out for himself?

Have your Dad play Stock 1.3 on limited realism for awhile first. Trigger Maru ramps up the AI among other things.

Agreed. Install a mod to tone down the nuclear depth charges as well. If he decides to play on zero realism or lower realism settings, you may wish to alter the gameplay settings file so that one of the options you do have turned on is worth more realism as this will prevent an issue where you end up with a ton of crew who are ready for promotion but you haven't been awarded enough promotions for all of them. Hope he enjoys it.

On a related note, the game is hardly a shooter, even at zero realism. Your torpedoes can still dud if you get a bad angle on the target and I can assure you, the depth charges and aircraft bombs are just as deadly. I'm growing weary of this stigma that seems to exist that everyone who doesn't play hard core, balls to the walls realism is a total sissy. We all play the game the way we want, as long as we have fun...right?
