Default As any one seen The Cruel Sea 1953

As any one seen The Cruel Sea 1953
It’s just as good as Das Boot in my book
But it’s from the other side trying to sink subs
They only sink 2 in 5 years of war
And get sunk them selfs

Not bad for 1953 but nowhere as realistic in my view as Das Boot. Definiately worth a watch though. Somre great performances and a cracking good story too.

I have seen it and I have it on DVD which is part of a 4 disc box set including Ice Cold in Alex, The Dambusters and The Colditz Story. It's a excellent film which focuses on the crews of a Corvette during those difficult years for the Royal Navy. An excellent film which should be part of any U Boat enthusiasts collection.

The book itself is even greater.

I have an original copy of the book from the 50's, hardback etc. A great read.

Apparently when they were making it they approached the Irish Naval Service and asked could they use one of their corvettes for the filming, but that would have depleted the Naval Service big time so their request was turned down as they had so few ships. So in the end they got a corvette from the Indian Navy for the shooting.

I've read the book --clips from the movie appear on the GWX main menu. Notice Jack Hawkins picking up telephone on the bridge.

Books are always better then the movie. The big screen could never replace your imagination.

Except for "King Kong vs. Godzilla." I thought that movie was much better than the book.
