![]() *DISCONTINUED* Royal Netherlands Navy mod v0.2 ![]() I was put off a little by the lack of Dutch naval presence in the game and decided to kitbag some models to at least give them some cruisers and destroyers; an armed trawler will simply not do for our brave sailors. Right now they're one on one copies of American ships with a Dutch flag waving from it. I hope to eventually recreate the vessels and support planes properly and add them to the world map until their demise in march '42. Code:
Changelog: v0.2 April 13 2007 -Added Battle of the Java Sea Quick Mission Background by Vincent P. O'Hara You start submerged between the IJN Java convoy and the IJN escort group intercepting Doorman's ABDAFLOAT group. You can either go and sink the convoy to the north or go watch the spectacle of the battle in progress to the south. Your choice. The battle ends relatively fast but you have a good 14 hours to sink any remaining IJN ships. They dissappear after that. Dock at Surabaya to end the mission. -Fixed a problem with some the Admiralen class ships decommision dates being on the battle day and therefor unable to initialize -Changed Djakarta to Batavia in Campaign_LOC.mis -Changed the initializaton dates of Jap coastal batteries in Jap_CoastalBattery.mis around Java to a later date in March/April to better represent the invasion (they spawned a good two weeks too soon). v0.1 -Added Java class light cruisers (1 on 1 Cleveland class clone)-Added Hr. Ms. de Ruyter (she's not truly a Java class though she is derived from it, just put her in here for now) -Added Hr. Ms. Java -Added Hr. Ms. Sumatra-Added Admiralen class destroyer escorts (1 on 1 Fletcher class clone)-Added Hr. Ms. Evertsen -Added Hr. Ms. Witte de With -Added Hr. Ms. Kortenaer -Added Hr. Ms. Van Ghent -Added Hr. Ms. Piet Hein -Added Hr. Ms. Van NesTo do: -Model Java Class Cruisers -Model Admiralen Class Destroyers -Add K and O series submarines -Rename Djakarta to Batavia (Batavia was changed to Djakarta after the japanese invasion) -Add patrol duty waypoints for the ships -Add ABDACOM strike force -Add Dutch East Indies radio station -Model C11 Fokker W floatplanes -Add PBY Catalina Searchplanes ( I have a hunch UBI will add these) -Add Tromp class light cruisers/flotilla leaders (thanks AntEater) -Add Dornier Do.24 searchplanes/bombers (thanks JScones) -Add Buffalo Brewsters fighters (thanks OddJobXL) -Add Dutch Sailors Install Notes: 1. Extract the data folder to your SHIV folder. 2. Open names.cfg found in data\roster with your favorite editor. 2. Add "DEAdmiralen=Admiralen Destroyer" to the list of ships (without quotations) 3. Add "CLJava=Java Light Cruiser" to the list of ships (without quotations) If anyone wants to take this as a base or reference, please, feel free to use it! Just let me know and I'll try to help you out. While I do have some photoshop experience I'm no modeller and any help, suggestions or comments are appreciated! Download v0.2: *deleted by filefront* Jan 29th 2014: I still receive notifications from subsim once in a while from people interested in the mod. I'm very happy that after all this time it continues to be a popular topic! Unfortunately I gave up SHV modding years ago and I no longer play it. All my work on it has been unfortunately formatted years back and FileFront deleted all my uploads some time ago. I tried salvaging some but unfortunately all I could find was an early v0.1 version I doubt anyone is interested in. But, if there is still interest I'll upload it. Thanks for all the support of everyone involved! It was a fun ride for a while with some good memories! Last edited by L3TUC3; 01-29-14 at 01:14 PM. |

A lot of dutch stuff could be morphed from SH3 or GWX models.
Actually the best stand in for de Ruyter (and base for future real model) would be a GWX German Pocket Battleship. Resize it and equip it with 15 cm guns and you have de Ruyter Sumatra and Java looked very similar to Emden III (the 1924 one), but in reality they were a bit larger and older than Emden III, but of course strongly influnced by german WW1 cruisers. I always thought de Ruyter looked like "Graf Spee's little brother" ![]() For Tromp and Heemskerck, the best base would be a Porter class destroyer, as those two were really flotilla leaders. The Admiralen destroyers look a lot like british A-I class destroyers, but are of course larger.

The captured incomplete cruisers were de zeven Provincien and Eendracht.
One of those was still in service with Peru some years ago (maybe still is) as the world's last active gun cruiser. Those were "real" cruisers, not Flottilla leaders like Trom and Heemskerck, but I don't know their originally intended armament and specs. Tromp was complete in 1940 and served in the netherlands east indies navy, but somehow missed the slaughter of 1942 and served on in the british eastern fleet. Heemskerck was still unarmed when the germans invaded and was competed in britain. As no 15 cm guns or similar were available, she was converted into an AA cruiser with 10 x 4.1" DP guns in five twin turrets in place of the 15 cm turrets and the torpedo tubes.

I like the story about this Dutch minesweeper:
"HNMS Abraham Crijnssen The Crijnssen gathered fame during the Second World War, because of her spectacular escape from Surabaya to Australia in March 1942. Covered with treebranches, the minesweeper crossed the Japanese naval lines camouflaged as a tropical island." :rotfl: http://www.uboat.net/allies/warships/ship/2849.html |

Basicly I want to represent (to some degree) the dutch naval presence in the East Indies and Australia. So if SHIII has the Admiralen class destroyer, the Java class cruisers, the de Ruyter, the Tromp class cruisers, the K and O class submarines I'd like to see those very much. I don't particularly care too much about minesweepers and the types of lifeboats used (bamboo rafts were quite common). I'm toying around with the mission editor to add patrols and taskforces until March '42. After that there's only the submarine service and some of the ships left in Australia. I need to find a good tutorial though. Quote:

Unfortunately there are no native Dutch warships in SH3 (to my knowledge). I would really love to see the Tromp class added though (to both SH3 *and* SH4, although it seems that we're not allowed to mention SH3 "over here").
Another nice Dutch addition would be the Dornier Do.24. That does exist as a mod in SH3 and I'm sure could be ported over. Last edited by JScones; 04-11-07 at 06:31 AM. |
