----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am trying to skin the IX boats with a view to make them more realistic in terms of patrol length. This will include weathering and a suitable camo/colouring to depict a long time at sea.

Please ignore the water colour as it seems that I have nerf'd my scene dat which currently gives me Med water across the globe

As this is a WIP I have not started the conning towers yet. I need to know that I'm heading in the right direction.

I am looking for feedback regarding the boats colour and weathering effects.

Your opinion is required, please.

I think fubar better look out, he's got some good competition. Looks REALLY nice so far. I so wish i had the same artistic capablty. Unfortunatly as modding goes ive always been a logic sort of a guy, and not creative enough for work like this. Again looks awesome.

I thought that you might be first in Ducimus, I'm happy with it too. I shall continue with this IXB version first then show the completed boat before starting on the IXC & IXD2.

The only thing I'm not convinced about is the camo stripes, maybe I'll have a play with those.

I agree... looks very nice.

If you can, please make them JSGME compatable. Much easier for us with the dreaded "intalling impaired" syndrome. Besides, it's much safer too for SHIII.

Very nice dan ....I take your point about the camo stripes :hmm: ....any plans for just 'grey/weathered' in future work ?

For an excellent reference on uboat painting , heres a link Jones gave in another thread if you havent D/L'ed it already:
http://www.rocketcopy.biz/models/rok...at_colours.pdf

Personally, i think Camo stripes in general, are to break up a ships outline, its silloutte. Its not like a boat can hide behind a bush and blend in with its surroundings. So the general purpose is to break up the ship's sillloute or otherwise make it hard to find a range or AOB on. The "dazzle" camoflauge from WW1 is an example of this.

The stock 9c skin, i think is a spin on this theme.

The purpose of the scheme, seems to be to present several false bow wave. I don't know if its historical or not.

As a comparision, heres a grey paint job, althoguh i must note that i didnt posiition the camera in the exact same position as the first screenshot so the breakup of the boats outline in the first picture will be exaggerated a little.

Now, having said all that. The reality is, whatever camo you put on a boat in SH3 isn't goign to fool anyone, so you could argubly take a little more artistic liberty with it.

Thanks for that PDF Ducimus, I'll read it while I continue work. Just had a quick scan and it looks to have a wealth of info regarding colours etc.

Thanks
