Ok, 1st tip!
Reboot your PC after installing SH4. After installing a PC-game, many players are tempted by the last setup-menu, asking them if they want to start the game straight away. And then wonder why the game runs with bugs and glitches. The reason why you need to reboot is, to make sure that the Windows-registry gets updated properly...new files & folders need a registry-entry, user-accounts need an update in the registry, dll's that came with the game need to be registered etc. Only a reboot can make sure about that. It's no garantee, that the game will run flawlessly...but it's always better to exclude as much error-sources as possible on 1st hand.

Right...1st answer, lol.

Defrag my HD, man, I do that constantly, as soon as my pc goes in screensaver mode is does that automatically. And as soon as I reboot it will defrag files that are normally loaded as well.
Of course I realize rebooting never hurts but I also know that if there is even the smalles change this is neccesary the install software will tell you too. But lets not take this further. I was just being a smart ass |

Hello, I have the following configuration (laptop - Aspire V3-771G):
Intel Core i7 - 3630QM @2,4 with turbo to @3,4 Nvidia GeForce GT650M -2GB 8GB DDR3 500GB - 5400 RPM Windows 7 64bit The problem is when I load a save game file it takes much time, is there a fix for this, I tried different methods like changing my resolution or saving without overwriting previous saves but still no luck. |

Hey everyone, newcomer here
I've been playing SHIV for a while, alongside with greywolves 3.0 on SHIII as well. There are couple of things bothering me on SHIV: 1. For some reason, i can surface quite close to enemy shipping during the night as long as i face them with my bow obviously, and even launch attacks from quite reasonable distance, or position myself before diving. On the other side, if i intercepted the convoy that is heading directly towards me, and i choose to approach it from below, suddenly enemy destroyers can instantly sense me and charge in my direction and begin depth charging me quite soon. This makes no sense, at first i thought they separate from Convoys to act like some sort of pickets, but when i approach from surface, they do not do so. How is it possible for them to detect me while running 1/3 silent below, and not standard speed on surface. 2. How do Japanese manage to cover every square mile of sea with aircraft ? 3. I'm aware that Pacific is called that way for a reason, but isn't it ever a little bit hostile ? At least a portion of waves i see in greywolves. 4. When i stay submerged during the daylight, i bring my telegraph to a stop to save battery. Yet the submarine maintains depth. Is that possible in real life ? |

It sounds like you're playing stock. Is that true? 1. It all depends on your approach, weather, depth, competency level of the escorts. When you are waiting in ambush, is your periscope sticking above the water. You should wait below the thermal layer until the last minute, then go to periscope depth. 2. It's a stock thing. The super mods deal with that. 3. I don't understand the question. 4. I don't know. Now go help Armistead with his oar. He keeps begging the new people to help him. Us older members ignore him.

Yes, I'm playing stock game. I was kind of satisfied the way game feels polished with all patches applied, however, there were still quite some annoyances once you get to play it more.
As for third question, what i meant to say is, the water is always calm I never see those big waves and the entire seabed around the sub moving violently. Who is Armistead ? |

By the way, why are you remaining submerged stationary during the day? You can recharge as you go. Last edited by Dread Knot; 11-27-13 at 08:58 AM. |

Because Japanese have aircraft EVERYWHERE. Not even shutting of radar helps, because i still get radar reports even if it is off, which is also confusing. That leaves me with constantly having to press "+" button because i keep being spammed with reports, and have to dive every second to avoid combat.
So as a solution i simply dive and move very slowly with surfacing now and then to replace air and get a speed boost, until the night. I don't find that annoyance in SHIII, well, not since i got no radar on an U-boat, and since weather is usually so lame that you don't get to spot anything until it is right in your face BTW, how do i recharge while submerged ? |
