The best place to find out whether anything in the patch or RFB itself caused the problem would be the RFB thread. They would be the experts on the mod and might be able to figure out what the problem is.

I spent hours trying to get rid of the programs, and ended up calling Microsoft support. At 0300 hrs on Thursady, after I had been on hold for 45 minutes while the support person was doing something, I hung up and went to bed. I woke up at 1200 hrs on Friday and was on the phone with Microsoft support until 2200 hrs. on Friday fixing the problem. I learned that the programs I had downloaded were Beta programs and there is not a tool kit to remove them from the operating system. The programs are meant for organizations such as schools that require computer security and do not want a computer user to have the power to permanently alter or delete files. After working my way through four support technicians, a manager took over and four hours later he disabled the programs. He could not delete them because they do not recognize the delete command. After 2200 p.m. on Friday, I rebooted and uninstalled SH4 and reinstalled it per the instructions in the sticky in the main forum, paying particualary close attention to its instruction to reboot after reinstalling the progam and after reinstalling the U-Boat add on . I had saved my mods and radio station files to the desktop as the sticky instructs, and downloaded a new JSGME to activate them. I did the same with JTex. I rebooted one more time and opened JSGME which activated the mods. I deactivated the Gar Fooskin Combo mod, but activated the others in the same order as I had done previously. Sure enough, when I was at sea my generic RFB boat had a stern mounted deck gun and a stern mounted anti aircraft gun. Due to the reinstallation of SH4 I had to start a new career, so I choose a career beginning in 1942 to have continuity with the career I aborted when the computer disaster strcuk. Then I exited and rebooted my computer. I reinstalled the Gar Fooskin Combo and when I was at sea, and the deck guns, the boat emblem and boat number were in plain view!! Yippee. Now, all I have to do is activate JTex, so I have mini tools and mini chrometer. I will do that now. It is now 0239 hrs on Friday. I have been fixing SH4 since I ended my last phone call with Microsoft suuport. So, I ended up having to re-start my career
![]() wow...I hate duds, I did intercept / attack a merchant so yay ending up engaging a small convoy (2 small warships and 1 passenger ship) sadly last time I ended up with more tonnage then this time (if only I had less duds) considering I shot 5 torps at a ship, only my first and last one hit and it sank (yay crits) and I did not go *firex5* I had a couple min wait between them love it when 2 detonate 300y away from your sub ![]() |

As you know, I installed the mods recommended by RFB, and ended up with my handle and boat not being recognized at the beginning of a mission, although the emblem and boat number appeared on the sub. Also, I could not load sailors to man the guns, and my boat had no deck guns.
I found the solution to the deck guns' problem (i.e. no deck guns) and the failure of RFB to recognize and my boat at the outset of new missions in SH4 1.5. The RFB Team recommends the following mods be activated in SH4 1.5: 1. RFB_V1.52_102408; 2. RFB_V1.52_Patch_18Jan09; 3. RSRDC_SH15_V400; and 4. RSRDC_V400_Patch 2 I also activated the following mods: 5. SS205 USS Gar_ComboFooskin_I'm Goin' Down; and 6. Mini_ChronoTools (activated by JTex). As a result of the foregoing, which followed the RFB sticky thread's instruction, I ended up with the unacceptable results described above. I filed a complaint in the RFB thread. I was about the do the same in the RSRDC thread when I noticed that RFB does not mention activating mods RSRDC_SH15_V400 and RSRDC_V400_Patch_ 18Jan09. Instead, it recommends activating the RSRDC_RFB1.5_V420 and RSRC_V420_Patch2 mods with RFB v1.52 mods. I deactivated mods nos. 3 and 4 above and replaced them with the two mods recommended by RSRDC. Guess what? I NOW HAVE TWO DECK GUNS!!! However, the SH4 1.5 did not recognize my handle and boat at the beginning of a mission, so I deactivated mod 5. SS205 USS Gar_ComboFooskin_I'm Goin' Down and reactivated it. Now RFB recognizes me as captain at the outset. Problems fixed after four days! I plan to post this in both the RFB and RSRDC mod threads to alert them to the issue. Last edited by I'm goin' down; 02-23-09 at 02:49 PM. |

DT, here is a copy of my recent post in RFB, the apparent cause of all my grief re the Kill Mods features.
"I have the current RFB mod and patch and the current, correct RSRDC mod and patch. I now have DECK Guns...finally. I have a Digital_Trucker custom boat -- a Gar. At sea the boat's emblem, boat's number and kills are pasted on the boat. However, in port at the beginning of a mission my boat's (USS GAR) name and number is not recognized, nor is my handle. What is up with this? Can it be an RFB mod problem? I have wasted several days figuring out I had no deck guns because the links in RFB to RSRDC were to out of date RSRDC files. Apparently, RFB has eliminated those links. In any event, I would like to know if there is any way to fix the problems I am experiencing in port at commencement of a mission?" |

IGD, the game assigns you a boat. Unless you go in and change the name and number, it's not going to match the boat skin and flags that you have.
As the first post in this thread specifies, the way the mod is meant to work is that you let the game assign a boat and then you check to see if that boat is already "built" (it's not actually built, just the emblem is put on the skin. See the fleet roster on the first page for a list of completed boats). If we've already made the boat, you download it and off you go on your first patrol, sending in patrol reports at the end of a patrol after you've received your last update. If the boat hasn't been built yet, you send in a commissioning request and we put the emblem on the skin and continue as above. If you want a particular boat, you can go into the .upc files in your saved game and change the name and SS number of the boat to match the boat you want. There's a thread around here somewhere on how to do that and how to force the game to assign you a particular boat, but I can't remember exactly where that's at and I have to get out of here in a few minutes. If you can't find it via the search function (or a google site search), I'll look around for it when I get back this afternoon, |

I think I have finally fixed the name of the my Gar in the Save files, so it shows up in the mission assignment at the start of new missions. And I changed my screen size, so now I can man both the deck guns.
I promptly manned the deck guns and set off for Midway, just in time to be a hero at the battle. By the time we arrived at the patrol area, the gunners had been awake so long they feel asleep at their stations. We spotted a task force while we were surfaced. And they spotted us. Their first salvo killed half the deck gunners while they were napping. The second and third salvos killed everyone topside. I dove, but it was too late. I tried to enjoy an ice cream cone while we were diving, but the salvos broke the ice cream maker, and the priscopes were destroyed, so I missed the action. I could not pull out of the dive, and am sending this, our final message: "Goodbye. Thanks for all of the help with the game fix! I'm goin' down." |
