Hi Rik007.

Great job on the environment. I think the slower waves make for a much more realistic "feeling" ride, with respect to the boats moving through and over the waves. The surface and sky colors look great.

There are two things I wanted to mention though...

First, even in the dark, or stormy conditions, where the surface is a murky or dark grey color, the view from under the surface is still a brilliant blue. I'm thinking it should be as dark/murky/grey as the surface, or maybe even more so.

Second, on a bright day in good weather (as in your second screen shot above), when I look out from the bridge, the waves in the middle to far distance, seem to be "sawing" back and forth in opposite directions and at a high rate of speed. I know this is just a rendering thing - the waves aren't actually doing that - but I was wondering if you (or anyone else) is seeing this as well, or if it's just an artifact of my particular set up. I'm running a 260 GTX video card at anywhere from 100 to 200+ fps.

Thanks

JD

For your first point: the water is actually darker than in sunlight. I think water is still blue as the color is a property of what is dissolved in it and from my experience in a overcast situation I remember it is still blue underwater. But I will try to check some nature documentaries for that. The grey color at the surface is actual reflection. I live 5 minutes from the sea and I noticed the surface color is for a large part reflection. The actuel watercolor in the North sea is always the same: a murky grey brown is (sun or rain).

The second point as you describe it look like texture shimmering. it becomes less when you do not move. I use nhancer to get rid of it (AA 16Qx, AF16X) and then with my card (8800) it didnot work for every driver version so you have to try. I even had to revert back to a lower driver version at one point as it hurt my eyes. You see it with distant small waves or when you slowy move the viewpoint around with the mouse. I fully solved it. I use Nhancer 2.4.5.

Thanks! The overcast textures (for storm) was the most difficult. Tried 40 pictures before I found something decent which a could turn in a repetitive texture.

IIRC the colour of the water, both the surface and below, is due to the sky above it (Thus the grey water when the weather is overcast) in deep water areas, and the colour of the bottom in shallow depth areas. The mediterranean looks more "turquoise" because the bottom is a mix of brownish-orange rocks and yellow sand. The Artic looks pale blue in shallow water because of the lots of ice, and very deep blue in deep water areas because of the dark (volcanic) rocks of the bottom/coast.

The sky itself is blue because of the degradation of the black space (cosmos) when seen through layers of air and everything floating in the atmosphere.

BUt I could be wrong ... must check this all

EDIT: Found the answer, yes it was right: http://www.sciencemadesimple.com/sky_blue.html

I have an idea: if you live in Barca run down the Ramblas and dive into the harbor near Columbus's ship. I my self will do the same with my scuba-gear in the north sea. The color we will report will be implemented in the next version as Med or Atlantic and part of the never ending SH-5 discussion.

But the water is blue overcasted or not. Only for another reason that I suggested.

I did not mean by any way to offend, rant or even nit-pick, I just wanted to make a point on what you did comment, actually concuring to it. And also help people who are not satisfied understand that water colour is very variable and has different origins.

I do not live in Barcelona, I live in Valencia (350 km southwards) but also on the coast. I can see a bit of the sea from the window of my home But here is a pic taken from the terrace of our summer house (At the mediterranean coast near Alicante) in juny. You can notice clearly on the right side how the blue water changes to green when close to the beach. That beach is of small white stones, hence the progressive shading to green.

Your mod is excellent and I like it much

Hi Hitman,

Thank you for the compliments!

I went once through Valencia but returned north to stay three weeks at Orpesa del Mar in a pension of an Orange farmer. Great time! Very nice view from your summer home which I will never match over here (as you can see below)

You are right with the water having many colors. For creating the water I collected all kind of pictures with all kind of colors. And it is amazing what you will see. Green, blue, clear, fog etc. But as a modder as you know you make choices within restrictions.

Here two pictures of the north Sea at The Hague somewhere in May in which the surface reflection is fully visible. Everytime I visit the beach the situation is different due to, timing, clouds, tide, windspeed and direction etc. It is never the same. I can not see the sea from my house but I can hear it during storms and sometimes smell it.

Hi Rik007,

Not complaining... I think you did a marvelous job. I'm using your mod, which, I guess, is pretty much the highest compliment I can pay. I just wanted to provide you with some (possibly uninformed) feedback.

JD,

Thanks! I did n't see it as a complaint so I will put it on the list of considerations. Did experiment with the AA/AF settings to get the shimmering away? You can use the Nvdia Control Panel for that as well.

The fastest way is to buy some decent hardware or plug-in the cd for a renewed stock experience. The 8k version - I was testing a version for the upcoming LSH version - actual was slower than the 16Km. After some tuning now:

Stock - 8k: 200 fps
GWX - 8Km: 180 fps
GWX- 16 Km: 145 fps
SH5 Water 8K: 115 Fps
SH5 Water 8K: 16K: 94 fps

So beauty comes at a price.
