Default Flak gun-U6 Type IIA, 1st Flotilla

I am on Mission 17 with 1 flak qualified officer and 1 qualified warrant officer. The crew management view shows the flak icon but no place to put a crew member. When a plane attacks I click on the watch officer, then crew on deck but the only option is for the watch crew....the flak gun is darkened out.

I need to defend myself! How can I remedy this?

Also, how can I upgrade my boat...I am in May, 1941.

Thanks...Rick

If your running the game just out of the box you can't use your guns or flak in bad weather you need to get yourself the all weather gun mod.

At the beginning of a career with a type II it comes default without a flack gun. You need to go to the upgrade section and install one yourself.

A Type IIA in 1941? That's . . . different

Either you're a masochist or you somehow missed the U-boat selection screen.

Default Come along at the right time

Have I come along at the right time.

I am intentionally running a what if campaign where the Captain gets to call the shots. Im using a Type II up until the Type 21 is available.

My first priority is to survive the war. Hence small maneuverable boat that isnt so easy to detect or attack.

I put a flak gun on mine but regret it now. It doesnt have the firepower to take on eight gun hurricanes, or the 4 gun cannon model. Plus the sim is modeled as soon as you declare dive everybody dives for the hatches so you cant wait until the last second before diving for the hatch when a plane is approaching.

Just crash dive out of there.

Now I cant get rid of the darn thing. It just flops around out there slowing down my underwater speed, and not doing anything.

So advice from someone who knows. Dont Do It Man! Dont Do It!

Sadly, it seems that the effect of slower dive time / less underwater speed due to Flak / Deck Gun is not modelled in SH3.

Default How do you know?

Interesting

But how do you know that?

Granted - it wouldnt be much but considering I currently spend all night underwater, it would add up.

Next time your in port, goto the Tech upgrade section, select your FlackGun on your sub then underneath you will get a list of current flack guns you can use. Scroll up till it says none, Double click, flackgun removed.

And btw, it is correct that with or without the FG your sumbmerged top speed is no different, same deal for a DG. With or without makes no difference at all as far as SH3 is concerned.

I have studied the game files regarding turn radius, rudder drag, dive time etc. It seems that nothing there is affected by the presence of Flak / DG.

That doesn't mean that something could not be done in the future... :|\
