I am mostly from sh3/sh5 uboat background where I can use many wheels and disks (roafb and attack disk) to figure out inputs for torpedo solution. It seems American boats don’t use these tools. How American skippers figure out aob etc? I like to play with no map updates so you won’t see red enemy mark on map for u to figure out the aob.

Their TDC makes it extremely easy to eyeball. Unless you go for longshots.
It's kind of like a bird eye view. |

So, compared to Sh5 and some modded sh3, Sh4 is kinda arcadish and less simulation like?

AOB is quite easy to visualize and estimate just by looking.
With some practice, it should become like riding a bicycle ! RAOBF and stuff is existing in most mega mods (SH3/4/5), but for info, RAOBF wheel was not used in WW2 by Germans...only in WW1 of what I’ve readed. Attack disc were probably used instead. US side, i don’t know...but i don’t think they used RAOBF wheels either. Correct me if I’m wrong ![]()

USA used Torpedo Data Computer, which could track target and do all the working for a solution and is modelled in SH4.

IIRC most U-Boat commanders used the so-called Ausdampfverfahren or the Auswanderungsverfahren from the 1930 Torpedo shooting manual of the Kriegsmarine. Ausdampfverfahren: Auswanderungsverfahren: Quote:
No, it just really easy to eyeball your target angle/angle on bow: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_angle Last edited by Kongo Otto; 01-28-20 at 04:35 AM. |
