Default TRAINING_ASW

A while ago I modified some missions for my own personal training purposes and it was suggested to post them to share with the forum. Reinforce Alert 1.40 required.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/jnz0k53ish...ining.zip?dl=0

1) "Training ASW", and "ASW"(RU) are variations of the same mission, and is as straight forward as they come. I developed these for testing various attack profiles and sensor experimentation. More of a skills developer than anything else. Versions for east and west.

2) "Training ASUW" was modified from an existing mission pits ownship against multiple surface units and is meant exclusively as a torpedo attack simulator.

3) "Training TLAM" is a time critical land attack strike conducted in theater with mild resistance.

Have at it! Please keep it in mind these mission are meant for training and in no way meant to be complex campaign styled scenarios. Perfect for when time is an issue, but the need to go out and blow something up is there. Enjoy!

Feedback much appreciated.

Thank you for share this! I'm very interested in training missions and I will try them!

As a LAWAMI aficionado, I will see if I am able to "translate" these scenarios for this mod!

First "training ASW" finished!

10:28 target detected (under layer) by TB-16 at 18 kts
10:30 praparing to attack - going above layer at 18 kts almost straight to target
10:33 attack and eveding possible counterattack (25 kts, course N)
10:37 next step of evading tactic (25 kts, course WsN)
10:40 next step of evading, active torpedo speed up to 55 kts (25 kts, course WSW)
10:41 first torpedo makes round on decoy, second (passive) chcange to run over layer. (8 kts, course S SW)
10:45 TIW! , zigzagging own torpedoes seaerching target, contact with enemy by TB-16 (8 kts, course S)
10:51 my torpedo (passive) lock target on north and speed up to 50 kts (8 kts, course S SE)
10:52 Victor hit!

Link to my replay file

Afterall i think this kind of mission are good only for Single Player. Its because AI have own, specific algorithm of actions.

Please stop with "training missions" and do something more complicated for SP or MP modes
From my experience not detection but identification is really difficult.
In this mission I knew, first detected 50 Hz signal is my target.

BTW: this kind of "training" takes in editor 3-5 minutes (for yoursefl do not need text messages and "win/lost" triggers)

Thanks for new mission - it is always good for DW community, but please next time for something more complicated!

sorry for my bad english

Link to ASuW training replay file.

There is something wrong with this mission.
Surface ship Udaloy "AI" and MH-60 "user" is not good combination because of sonobuoys (not compatibile) and game engine.

I launch again ASuW training and this time was not any surface unit, only MH-60

You gave probability 50% to each ship and 75% to helo.
Both ships should be in different group with 50% probability of inclusion.

fixed ASuW training:

TLAM strike finished.
Nice and very easy mission with lot of time to action.

Good things is placing pakistani sub with "west" type acoustic signature:
60 265 340 1127 1466 for Daphne (was in mission)
60 265 340 1214 1258 for Agosta (was not)

I did not detect enemy submarine. After attack I left "Launch area" at 25 kts.

Link to replay file.

Replay files placed for mission designer for a better understanding of the tactics of an experienced player. It is helpful for making new missions (I hope).

p7p8, I quite enjoyed reading your after action reports and comments on these missions. Thank you for posting the reports. However, as a fellow mission creator, (many of us here have experience in the editor, including yourself.) I take issue with a few of your comments.

This is quite unfair to complain about missions that are being shared here with all and completely for free. And can be modified at will and reposted as an alternate version. With permission from the original author of course, subsim provides the means to do this.

Thanks rentacow. Actually its rude and seriously ungrateful. Call it what it is.

@p7p8 - Bad form and unacceptable. Along with that English perhaps some manners might be your next conquest.

I fixed your mission and I have reviewed others completly for free and you call it "rude and seriously ungrateful".

I know that kind of missions are not good for teaching players "how to do something" in MP session. I have some experience in teaching players about DW in MP mode (tactics and mechanics). Furthermore that missions are harmfull (in some sense) because AI act copmletly different than other players. For exapmle: AI can directly attack you by subroc after launching torpedo or ASM. Normaly player have only bearing. AI have bearing, speed, course and range!

Afrerall if you want "sweet review" of your missions please read this:

1) ASW training US - excelent mission! -
2) ASW training RU - outstanding!
3) ASuW training - very nice! - good work!
4) T'LAM training - marvelous!

Is this what you want to read?

YES I AM.

Excuse me - Did I charge you for the missions to begin with? NO? Then I'd say you got your value out of the deal. Be grateful I spent "3 to 5 minutes" of my own time to your benefit at all. Lastly, whatever I upload here in the future is my prerogative, I don't do requests. Go satisfy your own hunger.

I got an idea, start your own training series or whatever if you think you're all that, Mr. Big Shooter. Lets see what you got. But be aware, I am highly advanced in dangerous waters, and there is absolutely nothing you can tell me that I don't already know six ways from Sunday.

Whatever. We're done here - Thank you for playing my missions.

I would like learn something from you, especially in DW multiplayer session.
Are you ready to take the gauntlet?

BTW: Why you share your mission if you cannot stand any criticism? I know this is training so for many players means little boring. It is normal for me, why you are so pissed?

Why are you so severely hostile?

No matter what you create, feedback and criticism is a part of it.
If you can't handle it, don't share things, really.
His words might not have been the most diplomatic, but the wasn't trashing it or rude or something.
Also, offense is taken, not given. Grow some skin.

It is one thing when you receive completely nonconstructive criticism, sure, but even then, just ignore it if it is of zero value.
Otherwise, be glad you get feedback at all? Others create missions and never know how it was received.

My 2 cents (as a mission designer as well).

Hostile? I'm just keeping it real.

These mission were not created to be a demonstration in mission building, multiplayer exercises, or anything complex, or anything to impress. They were developed for a very specific market in mind, and that was made perfectly clear in the disclaimer. I even went out of my way to warn players before hand not to expect very much. So the fact someone feels the need to complain that they weren't complex enough, and that they are "harmful", and I need to Please stop with "training missions" and do something more complicated for SP or MP modes. That's not a critique of the missions, that's being rude, and I'm going to rightly push back on that. Fact is these missions were headed to the bins until another forum member thought someone would like some throwaway missions to play with. That was it. To generate some activity in this dead forum. Totally and completely irrelevant to me anyone likes them or not. Its the rude attitude, obviously expecting more than was offered. The complaints are silly, or unfair as someone else put it. Criticize the missions sure, but don't get mad because you got exactly what was told to you at the very outset.

I would just like to point out in the OP that which is bolded in the above quote.

While (constructive) criticism is always good, this community has been rather quiet for a while in terms of mission production. We are seeing a revival in interest in creating missions and also trying to teach others how to make missions. I think it's important we encourage this growth but we don't need to completely sugar coat everything either.

Just because people are only posting training missions does not mean that they can make a Bill Nichols-quality mission but just choose not to and instead decide to make these "simple" missions. We are all learning as we go and making a good scenario for Dangerous Waters is definitely not an easy task.

I say bring on all the training missions and tutorial stuff we can get. No one becomes fluent in Dangerous Waters overnight and no one becomes an amazing map maker overnight, either. There is always something to learn when it comes to this game.

I think there has been a lot of misunderstanding in this thread. Please continue posting and contributing!

(P.S. I feel terrible for what has transpired in this thread since I had a hand in suggesting USA~Driver share his missions here.)

Misunderstanding completely. I was the one who originally suggested to USA~Driver that he post the missions.

p7p8, I understand your frustration with the recent abundance of training missions. All types of missions are shared here.

I feel like the types of criticism expressed in this thread could be of a more general nature and in their own thread, rather than here in a simple mission release thread for the OP to endure. Consider the quotes that I take issue with in the context of their own thread. It is clear that this humble community is itching for some fresh content.

I want to motivate people to create missions. Not create drama.
