Hey there
I am playing this OM campaign which I started in early 1940, with manual TDC and the other realism options. I'm now in February 1941 but still getting a lot of duds at a very high level: just intercepted a convoy with full load of torps, I fired almost all of my internal reserves (Type VII) managing some hits (like 6 or 7 hits) and all were duds.... I don't know what would be going on, this would be around 70% of dud rate, most of the impacts were on 90º angle (I know the Mark 14 had a lot of problems with that angle, but don't know about german torps) tried to switch a little, 95º, 100º, shallow depth, near the keel depth but they still keep failing. Any tips on how making them work (or at least get the less possible duds)? I know that early war the German torps had a lot of trouble with both detonators, but weren't they yet solved as of 1941? Also when they were allowed to use the magnetic detonators again? I used them a bit at my Norway campaign patrols (as they were allowed for that operation) and had some success but don't know when the German captains could start using them again. |

The new reliable magnetic pistols weren't available until December 1942.

Surely there's a huge problem with magnetic detonators but using impact at the right angle (90degs +/-10) and auto targeting, I've minimal failures and usually most ships sink immediately with the first hit.

While that's true, it's not exactly realistic. Early in the war they didn't have a switch, and couldn't turn the magnetic pistols on and off.
Still, if you want better results that's sometimes the way you have to go.

![]() mmm do you have realistic duds activated? My ~70% dud rate is in those exact conditions :/ Maybe it's just a streak of bad luck. |

Yes, I always play with realistic duds.
