Hey guys,
Is this still the best modern naval combat sim, or has anything else come out that I've missed? Anything newer in the works?

AFAIK this is still the best, but both Sonalysts (I think) and a user here named nsmonia are working on new modern sims

In my opinion, it's the best (re: only?) modern anti-submarine warfare simulator that deals with the tactical control of a single ship/vessel/aircraft. There are newer games that are not as hardcore or deal with a more strategic command of a group or fleet. However, I am not as well versed in what those games are capable of.
Like Cybermat has said, there is speculation that Sonalysts is working on something new. I feel like I saw a press release or a post (on here?) at some point where they talked about making a new engine for their Asteroid Defense game or whatever which was going to be a segue into a new submarine simulator. Who knows?

Wow, it's been almost 10 yrs since we had the latest DW. It's good news to hear about a possible new game WIP. It'd be nice to have a modern naval sim with graphics on par with SH series.

Sim Engine II advertised on Sonalyst's website looks very interesting and intriguing, but it is my take that its future development and application will be rather in commercial offerings and not hard core PC combat simulation like sequel to DW. Logically, this has to do with potential, viable gains such a commercial undertaking may bring to Sonalyst.
On the other hand gaming audience is clearly targeted by Rear Impact and it serves as a demonstration of new features and global capabilities of this new SE II engine. This is my take and I do not think ATM anything as involved as DW#2 is in the works ![]() Last edited by Polak2; 02-02-16 at 10:02 AM. |
