radar whats new?

Hi all,

Giving a another try to this game since when I recently got it...well you all know.

Any "must have" recommended mods asides from the TDW patch? As I have seen, there are tons of new mods and I will die first than trying them all haha

Any good mod list will be really appreciated!

Peter, it would be really helpful if you could link TWoS FAQ and Tips post also in your welcoming post because it's getting a bit annoying for me to answering same questions over and over again... What do you say?

Hi Peter,

Thanks for all the valuable information on this. It looks that so much good work has been done.

However, I have been playing the couple days (or trying) and I am recalling those bad days again. Please correct me (anyone) if I am doing something wrong of there is a fix for any of the following:

saving games: there are still issues for saving games, right? Because I saved a game just about to start an attack, and the moment I want to load it, game crashes and it simply shuts itself down without any error message. So what the a good saving game strategy would be? (if any). Just to think that I cannot save a game whenever I want in a long combat patrol simulator as this one, makes me really think to get deep in to it.

unexpected crashes: while being submerged, from time to time I click in any of my officers and the game crashes.

ctrl esc issue: this has always been an issue since SH4, right? (don't remember this one in SH5), should I avoid it?

Thanks!

Default I missed one..

Another one:

Sonar man: why is it that having a ship no more than 6km away from me, while in the periscope, he "cannot detect" nor track any contacts?

Thanks a lot!

Tips for stable gameplay (important):
- DO NOT add any additional mods if you are not 100% sure what you are doing!
- Avoid using autosave gamesaves. They become easily corrupted.
- Do not jump from historical missions or museum into campaign directly, and vice versa. When you wish to load individual gamesave or Historical mission, Restart the game first. SH tends to "remember" some things from previous sessions which can effect stability and corrupt gamesaving function.
- Never overwrite old/previous game saves. Always make a new one...
- Keep your gamesaves clean. Try not to save game with destroyed/damaged or in any way bugged AI units(especially airplanes) in your rendering area. (60 km around the sub). This doesn't mean that you should never do this but make sure to have at least one previous "safe" gamesave.
- Game save with complete restart of the game at the beginning and esspecially at the end of each patrol (approx. 200-300 Km or more from home port) is highly recommended. This will improve game stability and unburden game engine for upcoming rendering "shocks".
- Occasional save and complete restart of the game between the actions/encounters during long patrols is highly recommended (at least once in ~72h of sim time)! It is always good idea to make a manual gamesave in the bunker and restart the game before you start new patrol.
- Avoid gamesaving and use of high time compression while bunch of things is happening around you, let's say 32/64 at max (deck gun attack, attacking large convoys, approaching ports, escorts evading ect...).
- Ease your TC and try to limit duration of your playing sessions while operating in areas with dense air and sea traffic (like Baltic, North Sea or coastal waters).
- When things seem quite, surface the boat, recharge your batteries, load torpedoes and...save the game... (You can prepare special meal for your crew as well)
- If your game CTD when advancing to the next campaign (instant jump from patrol to bunker), try to alt/tab the game few times while you're in the campaign selection screen or load last auto entering base save (if game had time to create it). Don't wait for campaign end date in units reach environment.
- Playing without real navigation on board and zipping around like crazy with high TC for extended periods of time will most likely crash your game at some point. Unfortunately this is the way it is with modded SH5 and it's especially true when it comes to coastal waters areas with dense air and sea traffic...
- Read this post for a few more useful tips...

Hi LCQ_SH

Do not make saves around any attacks or within 60km of any enemy destroyed marks.

sober says that if you have to make saves when submerged then to do so with the periscope up and then using the esc key x 2 you can make a manual save.

The problem with the sonar man possibly could be to do with the speed of the ship.
At around 5 knots or less he may not hear anything.

Not sure what you mean???

Alt + Tab will pause your game and take you to the desktop.
You will see the game in the taskbar.

Never tried Ctrl + Esc

I have updated a few tutorials today.

yep,

in SH4, going to desktop, meant that things would not work properly after going back to the game. I can't recall if that happened or happens in SH5.

Hi LCQ_SH

I agree it is not a problem with SH5.
Using the dedicated Windows key will also take you to the desk top.

Hey Peter, and everybody else.

One of my very last questions (I hope hehe)

Is there any weather bug or something like that? I have been on the ocean with winds of 60m/s for several days... My crew is starting to get motion sickness (so do I)

Thanks
