Support Assisted TDP won't show calculations

Hello all,

First and foremost I am new to the community, and after reading through some of the threads here I'm happy to be a part of it! I just have a quick question in regards to my problem in SHIV.

I am very new to the sub sim scene, and I only just started playing these games a week ago. After giving SHIII a whirl and getting the hang of things (minus manual targeting), I moved up to SHIV to experience the US side of sub warfare.

Now here is my issue when it comes to engaging ships. As I said I have been using assisted targeting, and in SHIII when I go to the TDC, it shows all of the calculations, with the ship's direction and torpedo bearing/travel calculation and all. However, in career mode specifically, I can't get the TDC to do the same. It only shows my sub and the attacking/defending craft, with no calculations. I am aware I don't really need the TDC when using assisted targeting, but I like to use it to get a good angle for my torpedoes.

I don't have this problem when I tried a quick mission. I'm at a loss! I'm probably just missing something very obvious, as I don't think I'm totally used to SHIV's somewhat different controls. Any help would be appreciated!

The assisted setting isn't a thing in SH4. The TDC is either fully automatic or fully manual.

The process of torpedoing a ship generally consists of plotting the targets to determine course and speed, then configuring the TDC to do the angle solving. Which part are you having trouble with?

That's essentially it. Apart from quick missions and tutorials, I can't get the fully-automatic targeting to work. Example, everything is plotted out when I look at the attack map when I have the attack periscope locked/pointed at intended target; the attack map shows the ship and submarine's bearing, as well as the path the selected torpedo will take once fired. In career, this doesn't work at all for me. I'm not sure how to better explain this, I hope I was able to clarify!

In the career office, click the radio on the shelf to the left. Then click gameplay options.

If you're talking about "Manual Targeting System", that isn't selected.

Are you trying to change the setting in the office and then load a game mid patrol? That won't work. Difficulty settings are set in stone once the patrol starts. You would have to return to port, change your settings, and then launch your next patrol.

No, I never changed any settings mid-game. When I started my career, I chose all of the realism settings before I even left for my first patrol. I've checked to see if there were any settings on the map itself, the periscopes, you name it... still no luck!
