GWX Installation Questions

I am reinstalling SH3 and planning to try out the GWX 3.0 mod. A couple of questions, though:

First, where do I install the GWX 3.0 mod to? I have the game loaded through Steam - does the mod get installed to the game's steamapps directory?

Second, although it's probably fairly easy to just uninstall everything and redownload and reinstall stock SH3 from Steam if I decide I want to try something different, what's the easiest way to uninstall the GWX 3.0 mod and return to the stock installation??

You are much better off making two installations, one stock and one GWX.

GWX is not a mod, and does not go in JSGME.

You can put it anywhere outside of your SH3.

You might also take a look at SH3 Commander that is highly recommended as another add on tool.

Also the mod Ahnenerbe WideGui 1920 x 1080 Final if you use that resolution.

You need to guide the GWX 3.0 installer to the folder that contains the SH3.exe

Got problems with the SH3 + GWX install.

First I installed SH3 and JSGME, then GWX. I think not every part of GWX couldn't get activated. Good thing I was on my third patrol, because I found this post and uninstalled everything (SH3, GWX, JSGME, SH3 Commander). Installed SH3 (@ C:/Ubisoft/... not Program Files), then GWX.

Right now I was able to start a new career once but the game crashed after 10 minutes. The other times it just crashes while loading.

Any ideas?

Yes. Always read the documentation first.

From the GWX Manual:

Stupid me. Removed the folders but didn't think of the registry yet. Thanks for the hint!

Hello All!

Im attempting to play my first silent hunter game, and everything I read for reviews told me to start with SH III. so I picked it up off of steam. and trying to get this grey wolves to work, searching through the forums and so far havent been able to find a solution to my particular problem. I went to the official mod website, and clicked the filefront download. then ive tried to download the file and every place i pick I get a

"The file "GWX3(8)-7.bin" could not be located in the "E:\Program Files (x86)\steamApps\common\silent hunter 3" please insert the correct dicks or select anther folder"

im running windows 8.1 if that helps/hurts

I feel like this should be a lot simpler then what ive hit on....ill keep looking threw the forums and hopefully can be playing my first sub sim soon.

I've been told that in newer Windows versions they like to keep the Program Files for their own use. It's better to create a new folder and direct the game to install there. Some of us have it on the main 'C' drive, and some like to put it into a alternate drive, either external or internal. My path is C:/Games/Ubisoft, and it runs with no problems at all.

If you've never played a sub sim before, I would suggest running SH3 stock for the tutorials, as GWX makes some of them much harder, more fit for experienced players. Then play some of the Single Missions stock as well.

As for GWX, the best guarantee for a good copy is to download it from Jimbuna's signature. It's easy to find because he just posted a little further up this page.

Some things are never simple. Running a submarine is one of them. Installing supermods is another. But don't worry - we'll be here to guide you every step of the way.
